Order it, make it (from scratch), or make it (from a box)? Which do you do?

it really depends on the child. I love to bake and cook. I always thought I'd bake my kids cakes from scratch. I just didn't think anything else would do.
Meanwhile, I have ordered every one of my kids birthday cakes. They both enjoy choosing the airbrushed scenes of thier favorite characters. The cakes are adorable and they taste good. Usually I have the entire family (20 people or more) over. By the time I have cleaned the house and prepared other dishes I'm relieved that the cake is done by someone else.

It really depends on the age of the child. Younger children - 1-2 years old - could care less - I would just do a boxed cake from home. AFter the age of 2 - most kids have some favorite character or interest, and would like a cake reflecting that - so then I would order it.

I prefer bought cake because it is a) easy b) has that unique bakery cake flavor that I can never seem to duplicate. This is particularly true of the icing.

I do like to make cakes for kids birth days too. Especially when they are younger (8 and under) and appreciate it. I like to do either a box or homemade cake baked in a stainless steel mixing bowl. Hollow out the center just big enough for a barbie doll (cheap imitation one or the real deal. By now you can see where this is going. The cake looks like a ball gown and the barbie is sticking out of the top. Look up a recipe for 'decorators icing' on the net and use a piping bag to make decoration. They are cute and the girls love them. For the boys...hmm...I have a girl so I'm lost there!

My Granddaughters birthday is Wednesday, she will be 8. For the past 3 years we have ordered cupcakes, half of them chocolate, half white. This year they will all be decorated in different colors (like balloons) the icing that is. When my Grandson turned 4 we ordered his cupcakes in the Thomas the Train theme. They can do so many different themes with the cupcakes. I think cupcakes are better than a sheet cake because if the child (or adult) doesn't want to eat it they can take it with them.

while you're proceeding to bake the cake your self and characteristic a recipe, attempt to bypass by using and see what components are dairy and then replace. as an occasion if it demands butter, replace organic olive or canola oil margarine or oil. If the recipe asks for milk to be added you ought to use soy milk or coconut milk or rice milk. do only an ordeal bake in the previous the party to establish if it seems properly and could it fairly is wonderful then you certainly understand all structures are bypass. If no longer you may would desire to tweak the recipe slightly to bypass suited for you. dodge chocolate frosting and so on. i think of that has milk in it so even hint quantities would reason worry to those that are allergic. try doing an orange flavour and while making the frosting use slightly orange juice to blend and make the frosting with a dab of organic vegetable margarine. I particular wish this helps you. variety regards, Lisa P.S. I did an orange cake for my son while he grow to be little and that i embellished it with a image of garfield the cat I drew on the icing with distinctive colours of frosting. He enjoyed it.
