It's a whole lot better than any other country. There are problems, but at least it's not socialized medicine!

This is a good ?
We have the finest health care in the world but it is still a business and that is the problem. Soon we will have socialized medicine and when we do...u will see that they don't cure anything either.
Tips for dealing with Docs:
1. Take a pen and paper...when they know you are documenting the visit they pay closer attention. Warning...some Dr. will refuse to treat you if you bring a pen and paper and that is a good thing...you don't want a Dr. who cant take the heat...run away and be glad.
2. Never tell a Dr. what another Dr. has told you. Make them think for the $ you are spending and listen...LISTEN to what he or she is telling you.
3. Never tell them what you think...see rule 2.
4. Never tell them what u read on the net...that really pisses them off.
5. Don't waste there time...time is $ and it pisses them off.
6. They are not your friend...this is a business.
7. Good Dr's practice in town...bad Dr's are conveniently located to you. Make the drive if you really care about the service you are paying for. Exception: Dr's sometimes have a location closer to you 1 day a week.
8. Be nice to the staff, it matters.
9. Be patient and wait your turn.
10. Be polite, it matters.

An emphatic NO. When I was a child we had a MD who lived in our community. As did all other communities. they lived there. They were there until they died. Now since my old doc has passed on his practice was bought by a conglomerate and is run by an ever changing rotation of nurse practioners. They treat everything from depression to hang nails. I think it is a malpractice of medicine . They do not give the young doctors any chance to want to settle into a community. There is no money to help with the set up of a practice. They give them student loans and require they spend a certain amount of time in these rural communities as pay back for some of their education. They stay until you are comfortable with them, they have a good idea of you and your history, and boom they are gone with out so much as a letter saying they were leaving and the conglomerate gives you a new one whom has no idea how to fix his own shoelaces with out looking at a book to see how. I am tired of them putting me on medicines that messs me up worse than the illness I went for in the first place, Too many are looking to get rich with massage thereapy and diet clinics.
My friend had a kidney stone recently and I took him to an er. we were there for appox, 1 and half hours, they did 2 cat scans and gave him morphine, a strainer and said good luck. The bill cam 8ooo dollars! they said if he paid in full with in 2 weeks they would drop it to 4000 dollars. The cat scans they charged him 2000 dollars a piece for. I guess you know he cannot and quite frankly will not pay for the cat scans so he is now been turned over to collection. It is never ending.

I am a 60 year old insulin dependent diabetic, with no health insurance, I feel that the health care system in this country is a shambles and needs restructuring to vastly improve itself, I advocate for socialized medicine, no one in a country as rich as this one should be without access to health care, while I do get some help with some things there are a couple of medicines that I should be taking that I don't do the oppressive cost. What isn't fair is the fact that I have to pay full price for any medical care I receive and the insurance company's pay what they want to. For instance one medicine that I pay for is insulin and I pay $65 a bottle for it and the insurance company's pay in the neighborhood of $25 that just is not fair.

I'm 60 and retired. Have my old company's Health Care package. I get to see any doctor I want and it only costs me $15 per visit.

Sounds pretty good to me.

You are responsible for yourself. By working for the right company, I've managed to EARN my benefits and retire just before my 53rd birthday. I have enough money to last me for the rest of my life.

BTW, I never earned more than $55,000 per year. I pay my taxes and am generous to worthy causes. I'm just a good saver.

Yes the only problem with the healthcare system is the same thing that is plaguing the rest of the US and that is lawyers.

Generally, yes. I have confidence that my doctors are going to get things right, but a second opinion (especially when it's something big) is always a good thing. The only problem, of course, is that it's all incredibly expensive.
