First i wanna say i got nothing against equipment.....but im pissed off about rugby players calling football players big baby's wearing equipment when hockey players wear more thatn football players........i play both rugby and football and i dont see whats the purpose of hockey equipment when all your doing is shooting a puck and checking now and then....football and rugby are collision sports and hockey too but in football in rugby your trying to get the other guy down and kill him in the process whereas in hockey its just to shoot the puck in the net....only contact is cheking....like if its because of the rock hard ice and the blades then that makes sence

well the first person who answered this was a little harsh. i've played both football and hockey and i have to say that hockey players done wear a whole lot more pads than football players. i mean first off u got a hockey shorts which are very simular to the pads a football player wears inside a girdle, and football shoulder pads are actually bigger than hockey shoulder pads, but hockey pads go down about 3 inches more. hockey players wear elbow pads and knee pads because they play on ice not grass. i've been hit and fell down without elbow pads before, and it hurts like crazy! hockey players also wear thicker gloves so that they dont break their fingers blocking a puck, and a skilled NHL player can shoot a puck at atleast 80 MPH. and the gloves are also so they dont get their fingers sliced of on the ice.
on the other hand in the NHL players uasally dont wear any face protection at all, and if they do it only covers their eyes where as football players where protection over their whole face.
if u look at it that way hockey players have it worse off than football players. just look at a player close up after a play off game and u'll see wut im talking about.

Because hockey is the roughest and most dangerous sport there is -- even more so than football. They play on ice, not turf, and there is a hard rubber puck flying around at 90-100 MPH.

Also, most hockey players can skate faster than football players can run --- so the hits are harder. Don't forget that there are boards around the rink to ram each other's heads into.

I was at a hockey game last year and a guy had a puck deflect up into his face after it was shot on goal. He fell down with blood all over...and he got back up....I don't think a baby would have gotten back up. But this is in Football so maybe you want a comparrison...I recall the NFC Divisional Playoffs, Carolina vs Chicago...one of the Bears WRs caught a pass, had his feet locked up by a corner, then Minter just hammered him, knocking him flat...and he got up...so who's calling anyone babies? Just because they wear pads doesn't make them babies....I dare anyone to go up to Julius Peppers, 6'7 285lbs of raw power...and call him a little baby....he'd show you who's a baby.

Most things said before this are true, but you're leaving out the fact that hockey players can skate up to 35mph. That's a car accident.

Ever fallen and hit your head on ice, that can do alot of damage. Ever had a puck going at 50 , 60 mph hit you in the face? Not only will you lose teeth but you can damage your eyes, have brain damage any number of things.

Frankly I think you've taken one too many hits without your helmut to post something this assinine. You're no big he man, you're an idiot if you don't know enough to protect yourself when you're playing sports, no matter what the sport is.
Jerk!

You can go old school with it and wear a leather helmet without a facemask. I doubt anyone will call you a baby then.
