If you have kids (tween- or teenagers), do you encourage or prevent them from using this site?
If you're not too keen, it is because:
a. You are sceptical about whether it's actually useful for them; or
b. You think it may be useful, but there's content here that you'd rather they were not exposed to?
Is there any merit is creating an ID system for the site? Or would setting up a 'Y!A Jnr.' site (maybe within the main site) help?
Your thoughts, comments, suggestions?

To put it in a little context:
A 10-year-old on here would / could have seen, in the last 24 hours: a. Three pairs of naked breasts; b. A fair amount of profanity; c. A large amount of racist abuse and religious intolerance. Not a problem, maybe, for a college-age kid. But where would you draw the age line?

Alas, Comrade Grinner, there were 3 pairs in the avatars yesterday (not on the same lady), but the Chief Yamster yanked 'em.

We have our computer in the kitchen. I have kids ages 5,7,9,10 the youngest is my daughter, the rest my sons.
I watch what they are doing when they are on the machine. To be honest I do not think the site is all that useful for them except to make bum jokes.
There are better places to get information. My ten year old has had about 10 memberships, each time I have been directly responsible for him getting kicked off. Usually for profanity.
As far as being exposed to content, it is my responsibility to monitor that. Nothing bothers me more about people who do not know what their kids look at. I like to explain to kids what they see means.
A junior membership would be interesting or at least an age limit on membership to unclog the site a bit.

My daughter is 10 years old and there is no way I would let her visit Yahoo answers! the concept here is great, but there are SO many jerks who don't have any problem at all getting on here and saying the most vile, vulgar and cruel things.. I simply choose to teach her better manners than she would EVER learn here from a great many of the participants.. and even more than that.. she might actually take a lot of these stupid answers as real answers and screw up her whole life.. no, I choose to be the parent here.. not a bunch of strangers who don't seem to have a brain between them. and just for the record, I do NOT include ALL answerers in this category. but there are enough of the idiots on here to screw it up for others.

No. I do not/would not let my 11 almost 12 year use Yahoo answers. There is too many sex questions, racist garbage and plain idiocy. Yahoo might do well to add a junior section that would not allow some of this stuff.
As an adult, I can choose not to look at these questions, report them or look at them. As a parent, I don't want my children having to make those decision yet (especially the sex question as I want them to come to me to ask questions not a bunch of strangers who have no responsibility to my kids).

I won't let them even watch over my shoulder when I'm on, even the 17 yr old. Our comp. is in the nook just outside the kitchen. No way to hide what they are up to.

don't be so over conserving. teenagers who're mature adequate to pass on line and do their ingredient without vacationing irrelevant web content could be allowed to do exactly that. teenagers who would be to blame deserve no longer something yet parental have confidence. if your little ones sense untrusted, they'll on no account have the braveness to return out of their shell while they are older, and that they'll on no account exchange into sturdy and clever adults. Am I asserting that no care could be taken? NO. i'm in basic terms asserting that this internet site is a wonderfully suited internet site, as long as you reside in suited sections. Why am i able to thoroughly say all of this. it rather is elementary, i know you hate to pay attention it yet, "i'm in basic terms 13!" it rather is remarkable, i'm a 13 365 days old boy in basic terms attempting to help human beings out on Yahoo, and that i come during a question that asserts i'm no longer the right age to apply this internet site. My mum and dad are very to blame, they know what i'm doing. via permitting me to no longer sense constantly untrustworthy, my mum and dad have grew to become me into somebody who they are pleased with. think of earlier you're saying issues, heavily!

Im a teen, but from a parents way of view I think kids wont be kids forever so they will get expossed to stuff aniway. So they should rather learn something then nothing. So they will atleast understand wuts good or bad.

A jr site would be a good idea but if like mine your children are mature you should choose on your knowledge of if they are web savy and know and follow the rule for safe use of the web.

As a parent of a 14-year-old (daughter), i would most definetly let her use it.
it is actually pretty useful....i've gotten answers that hve really helped me out.
and with the sex questions, you should all be able to trust your children enough to know not to answer/ask questions like that.
the problem with most parents is that they keep their kids on a leash, and don't trust them enough.
i know my kids are good in nature--and lathough they have done stuff in the past, they learn from it and are very good poele in general.

my kids who are teens [14 +17] both come on to the site and answer the questions, I do not have any problems with that. the only thing is that they use up my allocation of answers before I can do it myself
