Bush and Condoleeza roll it up in blunts and smoke it, then they make decisions that affect the Nation under the influence of old money chronic.

Whatever is left is used as TP in the white house.

The bills are collected by the banks and if they are in bad condition then they are exchanged with the federal banking system for new bills. The old bills find their way back to various federal facilities where they are first shredded and then recycled. There should always be a set amount of bills in circulation... that number should equal the amount in gold in the federal vaults.

Bills deteriate due to usage. Thus you will find more older $100 bills than $1 bills. Coins are the same way although they tend to last longer. Silver coins prior to 1963 where pure silver and after that were a combination of copper sandwiched between two plates of silver. For this reason you will find only a few silver coins prior to 1963 but you'll find many nickels older than that. Pennies had some design changes back in the early 50s and therefore collectors will grab those keeping the older ones from circulating.

Well.. that's probably more than you wanted to know.

Hope this helps!

Bills that are damaged, ripped or excessively dirty are traded by banks for new ones from the US Mint. The old ones are recycled.

Good question! I would think that they either sell it to people with collections, or destroy it. i would think that they at least save some of it.
