I have to go to school early in the morning at 8am and i have trouble staying up in class. First i thought it was because i didnt get enough sleep but even the days i get 8-9 hours of sleep im still extremely drowsy in class. During summer i slept about 11-12 hrs a day which kept me pretty fresh but still tired. What can be the cause?? thanks

8-9 hours may be too much sleep for you. Oversleeping is a major cause of drowsiness. Also just sitting around in class and during the summer will make you drowsy, your body basically becomes "bored to death", so you just want to sleep. Of course, it could be a symptom of something serious, perpetual drpwsiness is a symptom of Thyroid Disease, Anemia, and countless other things. So, of course, you should see your doctor and have lab work done.

Firstly I am not a doctor nor anyone providing professional advice. I have learnt a little bit about this sort of thing as my son wasn't sleeping properly and it meant he was tired during the day even though he sleeps for 10 hrs a night.
I would suggest you are not actually entering the deepest form of sleep probably because something is waking you from this stage to a lighter stage of sleep. It could be physical or psychological. If you don't fall into the deepest stage of sleep, your body is not getting the required level of rest, hence your tiredness throughout the day, even though it appears you are sleeping for long periods.
You should awake from 8hrs of sleep feeling refreshed and energetic.
I would consult your GP and ask for them for a referral to a sleep specialist who can pinpoint your problem or point you in the right direction.
It may also be diet related etc. First step - see your doctor. Good Luck

It sounds like you are an adolescent (based on the school schedule). The reason you are so tired is because adolescents have different sleep clocks. For some reason (I learned this in University), an adolescent's circadian rhythm is set an hour or so later than a childs or an adults...this is why you want to stay up later at night and have a harder time getting up in the morning and staying awake in the day.

sleeping is not the only cause of tiredness.....food and excercise and stress are other causes.
A balanced diet=EAT BREAKFAST ! (most people don't)
WALK TO SCHOOL! (if you don't have time excercising) maybe even wake up earlier because your body may need an early start in order to wake up...if school starts at eight, it takes an hour to wake up you mind, therefore wake up before 7 and have breakfast and walk to school...if able to..or else walk up stairs all the time lol..

seriously...it may sound hard...but after a while it becomes a habit and it works...if not..see a doctor..I hate medication when a problem can be solved naturally..

good luck and make wise decisions!

First of all how old are you? If you are a teenager then that's just part of life & growing everyone goes through that. If you are an adult then maybe your metabolism is low. Sounds kinda crazy but the more you're active the more energy you will have.

This is due to very simple cause. Your eyes are getting tired very quickly when you are reading. You can do some eye Exercises to fix this problem. Look for eyeq software to see what I mean.

That sounds like problems with the thyroid gland. You should see a doctor anyway.

you should consult a doctor, get some lab work, and if needed do a sleep study...it could be about anything: metabolism or circadian cycle, oversleeping, low blood sugars, thyroid function, apnea....

There could be a lot of reasons.
The few that come to mind are...
you don't get enough exercise,
you eat too much too close to bedtime,
you consume too much sugar,
you have a hypothyroidism.
