advantages: teamwork, dedication, excersise, confidence, fun, possilbe scholarships
disadvantages: taking it too seriously, time management becomes an issue, u might get pressured into doing things u dont feel comfortable with like taking steroids

The greatest thing about playing sports is you will always understand the value of teamwork. It makes you a better leader and follower. Sports teaches ethics in the same way good military service does. I work best with people who were involved in team sports.
The down side: if winning becomes an obsession, the lessons are lost.

Aside from the hot cheerleader action, you learn how to deceive others (by fake out) and not feel bad about it afterwards.
