I've tried our tap water about five times since we lived here, and all five times my stomach got really sick. Last night was the last time and I vomited, had other digestive issues, and am still sick today. My husband feels bad drinking it too. We're tired of always buying bottled water though, and don't know how useful water filters would be. What do you recommend?

Water is supposed to be best for health and it's the only thing I really want to drink usually.

I consider the jug water and large containers of water to be "bottled water."

In the US the EPA has admitted 40% of municipal water supplies are substandard. Cities on the Mississippi River are among the worst. In some places pouring a glass of water produces a froth or "head" on top. That water contains detergent and accelerates ageing and elevates ldl in your blood. Not much research been done though so EPA isnt banning low levels (quite high actually)

So what is your health worth? Without it the rest is rubbish.

You need to make your own bottled water. You need a 5 stage setup that includes reverse osmosis. Some commercial setups compared here

but you will do better to learn and then put together your own. Cheaper too by half or more. The commercial kits run 10 to 20 cents a gallon.
BTW always get carbon filters with silver in them lest the filter turn into a home for bacteria.
The cheapo faucet filters mainly remove chlorine but that is woefully inadequate

Either buy a special faucet to filter the tap water before it comes out, buy something like a Brita water filter, or buy big jugs of water instead of the bottles.

Just buy the bottled water and do not cook or drink your water. Have the local health dept. come out and test it. Some do it for free!!
