The movie stripped down some of the longer "journey" parts where the characters aren't doing much but talking. They tried to keep to action sequences and even removed some key parts, like the old forest and tom bombadil, that weren't necessary for the movie's plot.

It's been a while since I last read the trilogy, but I think the movies did it justice!
But no matter the movie, the book is always better!

The movie had much more romance then the book....but overall..I thought they were both brilliant....masterpieces in their own way...of course...Tolkien came first..so...I LOVE them both...I think the movie did quite a good job for a book movie...most movies that are adapted from books suck....like Harry potter..harry potter sucks.
