Freddy Krueger is the best. I also give a close second to the family from House of 10,000 corpses and The devils rejects...those people were messed up!
Chucky was pretty cool too.

ooh, the shining hotel is a good answer. freddie seems to be popular but i would go with max schreck as nosferatu "is that your wife? what a lovely throat!" excellent!
also the evil ghost/witch in "the woman in black" and the witch from the wizard of oz and the scary girl from ring (the one that comes thru the tv) i actually ran from the room! im such a wuss

I think the witch in the blair witch project was easily the best and scariest villain because you never saw her which i think is more creepy,, to imagine what she was like... i think seeing jason and freddy, they almost got less frightening and more dull

WOW!!!! all these answers and only one mentions Pinhead from the Hellraisers movies. I think he is the coolest and the most evil, also i like how Clive Barker didn't just sell out and call them "demons" he came up with an original name.

Christopher Lee as Dracula! Fantastic!
He had such class in that role and was soooo sexy. Made you believe that the victims were mesmerised by him.
Could watch those Hammer films over and over again...

its got to be Micheal Myers, he was a killer from the age of 8, and usually baddies are extracting revenge for love ones (jason), but this nutter stabbed his sister for no reason, and dug her bloody gravestone up! plus he's wearing a Bill Shatner mask, utterly terrifying!
