A pacemaker does mean that a heart doesn't work efficiently ALONE, but the pacemaker DOES make it work well. Replacing the battery of a pacemaker is a one day, out-patient, minor surgery, so don't be too worried!

Pacemakers do NOT mean people are going to die soon. My friend has had a pacemaker since she was eleven and she is in near perfect condition now, at 17, and is expected to live for a long, long time.

There is no promises, of course, but I'm sure your grandmother will be fine! :D

The pacemaker is designed to prolong the life of the patient.
