Every Department has its own policy on this issue. Some will not hire you simply for the arrest-even with no conviction. Others will hire you with a low grade felony as long as there is no violence, weapon, or drugs involved. Some Departments don't even want persons with certain misdemeanors. My advice is to check with the department you're applying, before going through the whole application process. Good Luck.

Well, it depends on the disposition of the case. Were you acquitted, no billed or what? My department and the departments in my area ( N. Texas) won't even give you a second look if you have any criminal history. There is so much competition for the openings that there are plenty of applicants with no criminal past, so the ones that do just get kicked out of the pile. If you were not convicted and have a reasonable explanation, you might be able to get a foot in the door in a smaller department and work your way up to a bigger department later. Experience and trainiing are attractive to the bigger agencies, it's takes less time and costs less to put those officers on the street.

I would say the answer is yes. If you have never been convicted of the crime then there is no conviction. However if you made some type of plea agreement of took first offender status then it may be a problem for you. Most departments now ask about first offender status and if you ever plead a nole contender. There is hope though a lot of people have made mistakes. Good luck!

yep. I'm pretty sure you probably could still be a police officer if you weren't convicted.
