having worked for both, its a close call. They're different systems. One is CDMA and the other is GSM. T-Mobile likes to charge you mysterious charges in hopes that you'll just pay them, and Cingular's GSM network is worse than T-Mobile's CDMA. Depends on what you're looking for really.

Cingular. I had T-Mobile when I went down to college. I was in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I had little or no signal in the dorm buildings. With Cingular, I've got coverage everywhere. Cingular rocks.

It depends on the person and their personality and what they are looking for, but T-Mobile is pretty good.
