what do you think of Sri Lanka ?

Hi !
I am from Sri Lanka :)
Well things are quite OK here apart from in the northern part of the Island. The war has kind of started again - even we are not sure as to what the governments or LTTE's stand is. We all think that the LTTE pushed it a bit far this time by blocking several villages water supply and crossing the borders that they were confined to. Also during the peace process they killed 1 top world recognized minister, several top officers in the forces and also many innocent people. The government says that they attack only when they are attacked - With the past records of honesty of LTTE - I prefer believing the government. Believe me none of us here like war - we liked the peace that was here for the past few years.
For those who are wondering what the LTTE is - it is a terrorsit organization like the taliban - Banned in USA, Europe and many other countries in the world.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful country - you would love it here.. !

There has been civil war in Sri Lanka for at least 30 years. Some commentators say it is a religious war. Some say it is between the Government and rebel guerilla groups. Mostly the people are poor and rebelling against their old colonising power holders who have exploited the country and left it in conflict.

hi there,i'm a srilankan too,well,in my idea,it's a very gorgeous country(i mean you can go frm sunny Down South to the chilly hills of Nuwara-Eliya in only a matter of a few hrs!),cool culture,wild-life is great(i think it has the only elephant orphanage in the whole world which is Pinnawela),nice,friendly people,fun beaches. only 3 problems: 1) politics 2)the civil war 3)high cost of living...if we could just solve these matters,it would be a great country to live in my opinion.let's hope that they will be solved-cheers!

I was wondering why its so far away and why dont they move it closer myself.Whats up with that?Like it would make it much easier to buy cheap fruit.
