Did he also say that no one comes to Him unless He is called by The Father?
If this is the case, do you save yourself or even have anything to do with it?

chris p,
You respond to the calling. It's as simple as that. Once you've responded, you value that which is given to you.

You don't save yourself, you accept it, it's that gift everyone keeps talking about.

This is not rocket science!

Really excellent question. You got it. It reminds me of a certain point of view that goes like this:
"I am older and wiser than you, so you have to listen to me and do what I say."
Yes, there is parenting, but it is parenting, not exploitation.
That is one of the problems with "Father knows best!"
Sometime and even often father does not know best." By father I mean humans, sometimes humans do not know best.
The things that Jesus said are much more challenging than that. Jesus said that "he/she who believes in me well put down the stone and go home to their family! Better to come to dinner late/early than to stay at some place where your doubts are made to seem manifest.
If some man says that you are better off because you do the well some other man, then you are being lead astray."
Every gate is your gate to pass or to not pass.

No one can save Himself. If they could, there was no need for Jesus to die.
The Spirit of God the Father gives a sinner the understanding that he is a lost sinner in need of a Savior. He helps you understand what Jesus did on your behalf.
Because He carried the punishment of your sins up on Himself and since no one else has done it for you, Jesus says He is the only way to God.
Now you have the choice. After knowing all this you can either reject God's way or accept it.

Jesus said no one comes to the father except through me, meaning how can you understand or recongize the father if you can't even recongize or understand the son. We are all born sinners. You have no choice in the matter. God forgives you for all sins and gives you freewill to live your life as you see fit. When you recongize that God is life and the Son is all of it's creations then you will know the truth. That you are God and your life, your salvation is in your own hands. Forgive yourself and you are forgiven. The only person you must answer to is you.......

The Father urges the Holy Spirit to urge us to come to the Son. God causes a seed of knowledge to be planted in us through one of his servants. the Holy spirit causes us to think on that seed. that is how it grows. it grows until the point where we have to come before God and ask for forgiveness. then once we have that forgiveness, Jesus tells the Holy Spirit to work in us a change and we become a new person. so in a way, Jesus was right. no one comes to the Father except through the Son.

John.14

[6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I found no reference to the second part of your answer.

I do know the Holy Spirit is called the comforter and it is the work of the Holy Spirit to convict people of the sinful ways.

Good question(s).
He did say that no one comes to the Father but by Him.
He did also say that the Father calls whom He chooses to call.
But God is all knowing and as a Christian we need to witness to all people, because we do not know which of them will accept and which will not. God knows this, I believe. We do not save ourselves...there is talk in the Bible od predestination for some. So, who can say...???? God Knows.

no you don't save yourself but you make the decision to ask Jesus to save you, ask forgiveness of all your sin, and commit your life to God. Yes Jesus did say no man come to the Father but by Him. He is the only way.

We are reconciled with God through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the advocate between us and God. thus we follow Him, He is the way, the light and the life of the world. Thus we should follow Him and do the things He did; after having faith and rependting, getting baptized in His name and receive the Holy Ghost in His name and endure to the end and try to become like Him so at the last day we would be called His sons and daughters and become joint heirs with Him in the kingdom of God.

No one can come to God except through Jesus... i.e., based on what Jesus did on the cross for us.

God calls us to him in a variety of ways (the evidence of the universe, the appearance of design in biology, the fine-tuning of the universe, beauty, religious experience, dialog with Christians, reading the Bible etc). We then respond to His call.

No we do not save ourselves. We respond to God's call and say yes I accept.

Cordially,
John

Yes, the only way to the Father is through Christ Jesus because Jesus is a mediator between God and man. God draws honest hearted ones to his Son, those who are earnestly seeking the true God will be pointed to Christ as their savior. So God saves those who are seeking him out.
