Here is what coaches want-they want you to show a willingness to learn, and to hustle every play. Even if the play is nowhere near you, hustle!!! Show them you want to learn as much as you can. The best athletes on the field aren't the ones that are the strongest/fastest. They are the ones that know what they are doing, and why.

As a Varsity captain, I know hard-working players when I see them. If you ever watched the movie "Rudy" you know how hard he worked to be on the team. Even when his own coaches said he was the worst player on the field he kept trying. Even when he got hit and kocked out, he got back up and tried and tried. The important thing is to work hard and stay focused. You might not realize it but the coach looks at everyone on the field. Even if you don't have All-American talent, any team can use a player who plays with his heart and mind. Thei was a senior on my team from Cuba who was 5'7" 120Lbs. He got nailed everyday and left the practice field with a bloody nose yet he kept coming to practice and working hard, by doing so he was encouraged by his coaches later on during the season and was even admired by our three All-American linebackers for his bravery and work ethic. Its not about scoring the winning touchdown or getting a date with the lead cheerleader, its about what you want, and if you want it bad enough...you'll do everything in your power to get the job down.

Good luck this season, hope for the best!

Practice some of the drills you do at home and get them down to near perfect. At practice just go and give it your all on what you're doing, the coaches will see that. Even if you give it your all and don't get to play much after a while, tell the coaches that you feel you've been working hard and see if there's something you can do.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Attitude is something you cant teach. Coaches know this. You need to be honest with yourself and when it comes time to make the choice between bieng good and great you will know what to do. A good player makes the effort a great player gets it done. If your not fast, get faster. Your strongest muscle needs to be your head, a smart player is often more valuable than a fast player. Football is a game and it needs to be fun. Passion is the expression of this fun so get right into the middle of it that is where you find the greatness of life right in the mix throwing everything you have at it. Good luck.

Yes, it's the stars that get the attention. The fastest, the biggest, etc. What you can do to show the coaches your work and your concern is to go to one of them and tell them.

"Coach, I feel like I"m giving my all out there and yet I also feel very slow by comparison to Bubba over there....How can I improve my standings against guys like that?" "Or how can I get faster?"

By going tothem and asking question, (regardless of the "Just get out there and ubst your hump, kid!" responses) you do show them you care and that you are wanting to do better.

you didn't say how old you are, but believe me they are watching you, when you practice hard or not. All the coaches want to put their best 11 men on the field. Hope you are one of them.

well if ur busting ur butt out there, then thats all u can do... show him that u are trying your very hardest by playing your hardest every play... maybe get that loose ball before someone else, or do things that would prove that ur doing everything possible.

IT GONNA TAKE TIME AND DEDICATION. COACHES DON'T MISS ANYTHING. THEY KNOW BY YOUR ACTION THAT YOU HAVE BEEN WORKING AND WORKING HARD. SOMETIMES WHEN THEY ASK YOU TO DO SOMETHING SMALL JUST DO IT AND DO IT GREAT. LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS VERY IMPORTANT. JUST KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK THEY ARE WATCHING YOU AND THEY KNOW YOU ARE WORKING HARD.
