Thouroghbreds are very high strung horses. If you have him in a pasture with other horses. It is a term that us horse trainers use as problem with a buddy horse. If you ride him with another horse alot they get to where they don't want to leave each other can't ride one with out the other, or we call them barn sour.
As for as the arena there is another problem area.
Before I go any further may I suggest you take him to a veternerian and have his back checked. It sounds like he doesn't want to be rode. There is a tendon that starts at a certain point in the back and goes to the tail bone. If there has been any damage done to the tendon we can not see this with the human eye. Unfortuneatly the horse can't tell you if he is hurting. In the pasture he would be fine because there is no pressure on his back. Put a saddle and bridle and go to ride him he gets sore rather quickly. There for it appears he goes crazy. Get your vet to look at his legs too. There is a possibility that your horse is in distress of some sort some where. He is hurting and I really believe it is in his back. Also if he is a stud, you need to have him gelded. That will also mellow him down. Your horses back has got me really concerned though. I am not a horse trainer for nothing. Will you please keep me posted about your horse. I am really concerned. If this is not the problems I need to know so I can further instruct you on his behavior patterns. Remember too he is a thouroghbred and he is a high strung horseHis blood lines is to race on a track. I would like to know more about this horse's back ground. Safety always comes first. Right now his behavior could hurt you this is not good. Did he come off of a race track? If he did the best thing to do is sell him, because as illegal as it is some people still drug their horses. Makes them crazy. My friend had one when I was a teenager and she went totally crazy one day, I never did get her out of her mental state. She ended up breaking my shoulder. I still train and ride to this day. Don't get upset if there is something wrong with his back the vet can give you the best decissions concerning this matter or tendins in his legs. It may be a hoof problem too that you can't see. Down deep in the frog of the foot.. I am not trying to dampen your spirits here about your horse. Just take him to the vet first. Try to keep me posted in what is happening and I will guide you through the next steps.p.cynthia@sbcglobal.net Looking forward to hearing from you.

Fist of all do not get crazy - always remember he feels whatever you feel he understands EVERYTHING.

Does he do it and in the middle of taking him out and in??
If he does it only while getting out and in, it could be smth that he sees and frightens him.
Maybe he is just hot temper. Maybe he is just playing you know better.
Anyway i will give you all the parameters i can think of for such a behaviour.

Although more info is needed
How long have you been riding?
How old is he?
How long do you own him?
It could be something that you do, they have their ways and maybe you do smth that annoys him.
Do you know his medical backround ?
Do you know anything about the person you bought him from ? has he hurt him. Maybe he is afraid that you might hurt him as well.
If you bought him recently is it possible that he's been drugged?
If that is the case he could have a problem with his legs and they drugged him so he does not feel the pain, but that can make him nevrous.
At any case go to to the VET.
It could also be back problem.
When did you shoe him??? Maybe they did not do it right and that cause him pain.
What do you feed him? check it.
Do you ride other horses and he sees you?
Does he accepts you in his box?
spent time with him not only when you are riding him, talk to him so he can learn the tone of your voice do not forget you are the leader and he must know - that does not mean that you should heart him of course you know that and i am sure that you love him it is just that i 've seen.
Watch him closely when you are calm, if its smth wrong with his health he wants you to know, he is trying to show you, he depends on you.
Get him out of the box -do not ride him- and watch does he stumble a lot?? Does he enjoy it or smth irritates him??
If things get wild do not ride him -exercise him but not ride him- he could hurt you without wanting him to.
Generally horses never harm us intentionally they prefer to hurt themselves than hurt us.
GO TO THE VET. Ask him anything you can think of, take second advice.
Watch anything even if he evacuates enough.
What i am trying to tell you is that it could be smth very simle as well as smth serious.
Do not get anxious it will be all right.

I can understand that you are troubled, but at the end there is always a solution.
Keep me informed if you wish, i would appreciated it maybe smth that you find out could help me in the future.

best of luck.

I could use a little more information here. Has he always done this? Are there any promising mares he could feel you are separating him from? Are you leading or riding?

If you are riding, it is possible he has a burr or some sort of irritation that the saddle is pressing against, and that is making him crazy. I'd check the saddle blanket, too, to make sure there is nothing there that is pricking him.

calm down..... i think you need to talk to him. when you ride or walk a horse they need to feel like they are not just a toy being played with.. the horse needs to know that you care about it. give your horse a break from riding for a little while. give him/her a couple days to just be in the pasture. and hopefully he will calm down. good luck....

and whatever you do.... DON'T HIT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You didn't say if you were riding him or leading him. My ex wife's horse did that to me once and I cupped my hand and smacked him on the side of the neck. It didn't hurt but the noise was enough to make him behave. Never had that problem again.

he is probably just soo excitied to be going! A horse is a very high spirited animal. He's just being like a kid in the candy store--and can't contain himself any longer. keep working with him--he's an intelligent creature-he'll learn!! best of luck!
