No.

But you'll have plenty going on so you won't care, trust me.

I never had a doctor stick their finger in my butt during or after labor. I have had the massage done where they help deliver the baby by massaging an area on the womans body between her vagina and rectum but other than that no doctor has ever stuck their finger inside my butt for anything not even for a 6 week check up.

Towards the end of labor, doctors or midwives will sometimes give a suppository (a medicine by the rectal route) ... usually something like indomethacin. It's good pain relief and especially helpful if there is bad tearing or an episiotomy.

If a perineal tear has been quite extensive, the doctor might actually have to examine you rectally after the delivery because to stitch up the tear you need to know how deep it has gone.

If it has gone as deep as to go right next to the anus (or even into it) you will need a different repair (usually in operating theatre) compared with if it is just superficial.

Usually you would do a vaginal examination to tell how dilated the cervix is or how far down the baby's head has come.

The link http://www.babycenter.com/6weekcheckup says that the doctor MAY do a rectal examination.

It depends on the circumstances. I'm sure your doctor will explain before anything gets put into anywhere!

Oooo you are a silly.

The doctor sticks his finger in his own butt - pulls a funny face and whistles a happy tune.

Thought everyone knew that!

The doctor should stick his finger up your butt when you're in labour, he can feel how far the cervix is open and tell the approximate time.

Well .. It never happeend to me but if you tell your OB/GYN that you are having troubles in bowl movement such as pains or bleeding which is common in some pregnancies, then i guess they would do a rectal exam. They would do this to make sure that bleeding is caused by Hemorrhoids or anal fissures but nothing else. That is the only reason i would see some1 sticking their fingres in some1's BUTT

I never experienced that and I have three grown children. Maybe things have changed since I gave birth to my children or better yet, maybe it's done on an individual basis depending on the situation at hand and the doctor feels it's necessary.

I don't think so. I have had 2 kids, and my doctor didn't do that during or after either delivery. If someone told you this, they might have had a special health circumstance that required a rectal exam, or they might just be messing with you.

No, I never have that happen. Maybe someone got confused about what was going on down there!
WHY ARE YOU IDIOTS SAYING THAT IS HOW TO CHECK DILATION. The dilation is checked by inserting fingers into the vagina. It's quick and doesn't hurt. They don't check to see if your anus is dilated.

LMAO, yes hun they do. to check that there are no tears, and they can get a better feel of the uterus and the babies position that way. i know sounds nasty, but after giving birth in front of your dr and umpteen stranger nurses, all dignity is gone at that point, LOL
