Christianity is semitic tradition, distilled from a slow stewing of greek, latin and jewish ideaologies, and then double fermented with centuries of expansionism and catholic imperialism. But, and the big rub is, when you had the chance for a reformation and a little bit of cultural transition, you abused it

By and large we opted for market forces and liberalism , throwing in humanism to make sense of it all, and you kept us trapped by godly fear and brutal inquisitions.

In Britain, we are a liberal democracy, thriving on freedom of expression and individualism, and all though we moan about it, it's the best country on earth. We do roughly what we like, when we like, and according to global opinion, we are actually some of the nicest people about. Even when a few irish/muslims get together to throw bombs about the place, we go figure and be nice to them

so...our girls like short skirts, the guys like a beer or two and our government is run by gays...religion? Pah

Whilst I agree that you have a lot of valid points there, I can't help feeling that you are generalising somewhat. I have been a Christian for all my adult life, I get really miffed when I'm told by the church what I can and cannot wear, say, do etc and even more so with the pious people who judge without even knowing me, particularly when Jesus made it pretty clear that we weren't to judge others. I can't speak for anyone else, but to me, being a Christian is living a life as close to Christ's as possible. In that I mean treating people with love not derision, respecting yourself and your family as well as friends and others too. It means not needing to get your own back on people who treat you badly, but for your own sake, being able to forgive them and move on. It does not mean letting people walk all over you, just finding the most loving way, towards yourself and others, through any situation. For me, it means never being alone, knowing that Jesus is always there and that if you trust in Him, He WILL bring you through it, the best way. It means not finding ways to cheat the system for your own gain, but finding ways to become the best person you can in any given situation. It means being true to yourself, and others, not telling lies and being dishonest. I could go on all days about the good things and less good things about being a Christian. I agree with all you say about "Christianity" through the ages, but refused to be judged by the actions of others' whose own motives to me, seem far from Christian, and more about power and keeping the people where they can handle them. There are all kinds of Christians out there, I can only speak for myself. To me, being a Christian is the main focus of my life (at least it should be, but isn't always, I have to work at it) but my faith has got me through some truly awful times in my life, and I have emerged relatively unscarred because of His intervention and loving care. To me, the problem is religion. I don't believe it's what God wants from us, in fact, He makes it clear that He is sending His son to release people from "the law" so that they can live in a state of Grace and God's immaculate love.

Also, I like what you say about our country, we are very lucky, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Thanks for such an eloquent and thought provoking question. God bless.

If your liberal democracy is thriving tell me this? If you do not like your government do you have the power to be able to change them? Can you vote in favorable candidates? If they become oppressive do you have the ability to fight back and change that?

See in America our votes can change our government. If our government becomes oppressive we have been guaranteed the right to bear arms to prevent that from happening again. A lesson we learned from your country a couple of hundred years or so ago.

Not saying what you have is not good. But you have no clue what true freedom is until you have lived here.

Short skirts and beer are great and we have pleanty of the here was well.

Is Jay having a laugh? " We have the right to bear arms if we dont like our govt?" Is that why George bush won the first election fair and square
Is that why Black Panthers took the right to bear arms and educatte their people and to this day the GOVT is still hunting them down and imprisoning them when they are in their 60'S?
Is that why the Mom of a dead american soldier who protests all over the united states gets arrested?
Dont make me laugh
by the way stop pushing YOUR CULTURAL IMPERIALIST DEMOCRACY on everyone. Some countries do well without it eg Iraq

Unfortunately I'm not, ohhhh...I dunno...a COUPLE THOUSAND YEARS OLD! I have nothing (as well as current Christians) to do with the beginnings or ppl's frames of minds at that time. I guess, as you have so eloquently stated you guys are such nice ppl that even when you are being bombed you are nice. LOL So you are saying that your country loves to be shi* on basically and that Americans should do the same? And even so...where is the questions we are supposed to answer?

You don't know anything, obviously, [either about history, or reality] from your description of Christianity, and you certainly know nothing about cause and effect, or you wouldn't be talking that way.

You have no clue about the world, either how it got to where it is or where it's going. You're like a dumb lamb before the slaughter. Not a clue.

Christians LOVE christianity because nothing can actually be "PROVEN" so therefore no logical thought can ever be introduced and they can make up as many lies as they want about things and call it the truth without anyone ever having to PROVE anything.

Hold on a minute who ever said that christian girls can't wear short skirts or drink alcohol. I advice you to go read a Bible and get your facts right first
