For the last time. Marijuana is not illegal because it can't be taxed.

The majority of people do not grow their own pot. THe majority of people WOULDN'T grow their own pot.

Tobacco is a fairly easy plant to grow and I have only met one person in my life who grew that. I am pretty sure he was doing that to cover up growing pot. But Im not sure, Never found out for sure.

Why would someone spend all sorts of time tending to a pot plant, which by the way would end up being rather pricey timewise, when they could just go to the grocery store and pick up a 20 pack of camel Danks?

If you want to see marijuana legalized, you need to get out and tell people why. Write papers, tell your goveners, your congress men, senators. Everyone.

If you really want to help america and it's crime problem, you should push to legalize all drugs.

I'm not sure. I mean I can see the "gateway to other drugs" being an issue. But what is alcohol but a gateway to bad things. Hypothetically if I smoked marijuana once every 3 months..you could say I had it under control. If I had a cocktail every 3 months you could say I had it under control. If I had cocktails every night until I was wasted I wouldn't have it under control and could do many things to harm me or someone else, but it wouldn't be illegal. I guess some people could handle it, and some people would abuse it, just like everything else. Oh another good example is spray paint. I like the spray paint. Its easy to apply, and its cheap. I use a can every once in awhile to paint my lawn furniture. I'd say I have that habit under control. Some moron may buy paint every day and sniff the fumes to get high. They don't have it under control, and its not going to be taken off the market because its harmful in some applications. I don't really see any reason why marijuana would be any different. Its one more thing the government could tax us for. They would have a hay day with it.

No. The pharmacutical companies would never allow it. It would take too much away from their drug profits. Marijuana has medicinal value beyond a cheap high. That's one reason why it was declared illegal. Of course, the fact that hemp can also be made into a wonderful cloth (all parachutes in WW2 were made from hemp cloth) and better grade paper than pulp (all books from over 100 years ago still in good shape were printed in hemp paper) also helped to make the entire hemp plant illegal. Please remember, the Bush family owns 30% of Lilly, a drug manufacturer, and most congressmen and senators also own stock in drug manufacturers and also in DuPont and Monsanto. We can't have their yearly dividends go down, can we?

The alcohol and tobacco companies don't want it legalized either. It would take away from their profits.

Also the propaganda claims that it's "the gateway drug" that leads to harder substances. They say that only because it is "illegal". But in reality, alcohol and tobacco are also "gateway" drugs, but since they are "legal", they're okay.

its never going to be 100% legal due to the fact you can grow it yourself, unlike ciggerettes and grog that governments get huge taxes out of.....its not a matter of health or morals, its a matter of dollars

Hopefully... why? Because the government could use the tax revenue.
