Why is Hezbollah a recognized political movement in Lebanon although they are armed?

Hezbollah (Party of God) started off as a military organization to destroy Israel. They, and a number of other militias were formed when Israel pushed the then military conflict back into Lebanon and maintained territory as a buffer zone. This was brought about by the organized invasion of Israel by the surrounding Arab nations in an attempt "to push the Jews into the sea."

Israel has traded much of these buffer zones back to the Arabs under various land for peace deals. This lead to treaties and diplomatic relations with Egypt and Jordan.

You must understand that The Party of God is funded by Syria, and as Syria was occupying Lebanon, they were an effective and useful tool.

With the pull out of Syria, the U.N. resolved that all militias in Lebanon should disarm and allow the Lebanese Army to establish territorial control. Every militia except The Party of God complied.

Southern Lebanon is, in essence, a country within a country. The Party of God, under Syria's control continues to run all basic services (Medical, Sanitation, Social Services). It is only through their services that the public can get anything.

In short, The Party of God is the de facto government of Southern Lebanon and have maintained their armed wing because there is still an Israel to destroy.

I think you answered your own question, It is BECAUSE they are armed. Lebanon does not have a force to go against them. I'm sure the government is pretty much controlled by which party has the most force behind it. Unfortunatly they happen to be terrorists.

Because there are Christians and Mohammedans in Lebanon, and Mohammedans do not like Christians and Jews. Due to it, a little part of them and that are governing approves terrorism.

Even though they are a terrorist organization they unfortunately represent a specific group of people making them a strong entity. They have been armed for years and the government isn't about to disarm them or ignore them as long as they can sway people to their cause.
