I agree. I'd rather know things for sure instead of just accepting things on "faith".

I understand that this is a quote from Richard Dawkins, but I am not sure what he means by "religion."
I think he is probably correct regarding some religions, but I don't think this statement can be generalized to cover all religions.
Many religions/denominations that I am familiar with are NOT satisfied with not understanding the world and seek to embrace science as it informs us in its unique ways about how we might learn to live better in harmony with the earth and to find less harmful technologies and medical interventions, and so on--and to do this we have to understand the world in its intimate processes, both human processes of society and the biological/geophysical processes of nature.
Added to that, a number of religions now look towards quantum science and complexity theory to understand how the world works.

There is nothing in religion (or at least Catholicism) that says you should not understand the world. Wisdom, understanding, and knowledge are things thought of very highly. The only things we take on faith are mysteries that you, as atheists, do not care about or consider valid.

Well, that happens to be the complete opposite thought of my religion and also, if you look at any depth, of most religions.
That does not mean that your statement is not true about some practitioners, it is just wrong when it comes down to the fundamental aspect and goals of the religions.

I'm against it because when I grew up, I put aside childish fairy tales. I prefer reality.
