We are supposed to be a Christian Nation!
"Our laws and our institutions must neccesarily be based upon the teachings of the Redeemer of Mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise: and in this sense and to this extent, our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian"

The term "seperation of church and dtate" came from a letter by President T. Jefferson to a group that had expressed concerned that the gov't would favor on religious denomination over another.
Liberals have used this term to drive religion out of public schools and gov't, yet Jefferson and the founding fathers had no intention of removing religion from American culture. In Fact they Knew Christianity had to be the bedrock upon which our nation was founded on. It would not survive w/o a firm moral basis.

What you don't understand is that the clause regarding religion was put in the First Amendment primarily to protect the freedom of religion. Many of the founders of this country came here to escape religious persecution in the form of state religions being forced on them by monarchs. It would be bad for everyone, especially Christians, if our government enforced religion on us any more than it already has. For example, I'm a Protestant, and I would resent being forced to accept Catholic views with which I don't agree. I'm sure everyone of any denomination can think of other denominations with conflicting ideas. The whole point of freedom of religion is to be able to choose how to worship, and we can't do that if the government takes away that option to choose.
I don't see how anyone can read the first amendment and not see that freedom of religion is the same thing as separation of church and state. It says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." In other words, when it comes to religion the government can't tell you what to believe or what not to believe. If we lose that separation and the government starts preaching religion, or worse yet legislating religion, the freedom is gone because you no longer have a choice. That's why religion must always be kept separate from the government.

What are you talking about.
If it wasn't for the ACLU you would be a Islamic goat herder.
The ACLU protects the constitution without party lines.
When lazy do nothing blues cried that big business was not telling the truth. The ACLU went to court and proved that lying was protected by freedom of speech. Now business can lie to you and make more money than before.
Money is what the Redpublican agenda is all about making money, spending your money, and getting future money through credit card debt. The ACLU has worked to stop unconstitutional government security and exchange regulations, so brokers can take higher service fees.
Wake up and stop listening to the liberal Media. Look at the actual case files and see for yourself instead of believing liberals like drug addict Rush Limpgod.

I don't agree with those who say America is a Christian nation, but I'll concede that no non-Christian religions were professed by any of our founders. So, as a rhetorical shortcut, yes, you could call us a "Christian nation."
In his appeal to so-called religious people, George W. Bush was true to the sentiments he expressed at a Gridiron Club dinner in Washington on March 24, 2001. At that time Bush paraphrased Lincoln when he said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and those are the ones you have to concentrate on."
In that case, I think it's time -- way past time -- for those who profess Christianity to return to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Duping the devout is not Christian.

Great question! Do you really think the ACLU really believes in their cause. I think not! These people live off of "fear" They use this so-called fear to instill hate and division in communities all across our once GREAT NATION. How can there be so called separation and the damnocrats push for enimate domain that takes properties that a church is located on? Both groups the A*sclu and damnocrats think that all freedoms guaranteed all people are just for them. Want proof just check out yahoo answers. Keep up the good work.

You're a retard. Our founding fathers were not Christian.. they were most definitely Deists that did attend church.... But their core beliefs were not founded in Christianity and not to mention there is a reason a bunch of people being oppressed for their religious beliefs came here. Who the hell told you Christians that this was your country? Please, fall asleep for a very long time.
By the way, I grew up in the church and still attend and I do not claim any affiliation with modern Christianity, except that I believe in the Teachings of JC.

That was the opinion of a very few people, who have been dead for over a century.
Just in case you ignored this fact, the founders didn't think so. That's where that whole irritating "separation of church and state" thing comes from.

"...and Christians get to bully everybody else, and call them names, and stop them from practicing their other nasty, nasty non-Christian religions, and make war on anybody who's different than us, and what the hell let's throw all those other bastards into the ocean or better yet A BIG BONFIRE!"
Surely, somewhere in your hometown, SOMEone must have a dictionary which gives the definition of these three words:
Freedom.
Of.
Religion.
But please, don't let reality interfere with your thought processes...

If our country were based on Christian ideology, we'd be a theocratic state. Our forefathers left monarchist semi-theocracies in order to freely practice their beliefs. Whoever taught you that the US was a "Christian-based" country lied to you.

It is because of narrow-minded people such as yourself who brand others as "stupid" and "liberal" that our nation is divided as it is now. When will you hateful people learn to stop placing labels on people who don't agree with you all the time? Just remember, "A house divided among itself cannot stand."
