All Dad did was watch tv and drink beer while we were gone. Then call Mom a hypocrite when we got home from church. He said God was a fairy tale, but he beat my tail for asking to be allowed out of worship.

I dont really get the moral of this story. Your dads an atheist and your mom is a believer.You dont want to go to church so your dads whips you so you could go with your mother,which he calls a hypocrite and that god is a fairytale. Looks like your dad has some issues

Alcohol. It makes people lose their minds for a while. It gave him an excuse to exercise control over you and you, by asking to be allowed out of worship, undermined that control. Seen it a hundred times, in my own life unfortunately. But I guess better me than someone else.

Mothers traditionally go to Church.
Fathers do not.
Most of the men .in my family did not go to church.
But if you made a remark that was against the catholic church they would be the first to come after you.
I always found this strange.
You are willing to defend the church, but you are not willing to participate in it.

Why would you question the lord of your house? If he says you go to church you go to church. You should obey your father unquestioningly.

I don't know. Maybe he was trying to get you to respect your mother's wishes. But, I don't condone hitting kids...that's just wrong.
