Only after the second coming of Jesus, until then we will sleep.

I have found great comfort in knowing how the Bible describes our life after death.
It states clearly that we do not know anything. It is as if we are asleep. We do not "go" anywhere. Our Spirit (breathe see Genesis 2:7) returns to God. This is literally the air we breathe that sustains our life.
We do not get our "just reward" at the time of death - see Eccl. below.

I also want you to know that when Jesus comes we will all be raised up to see Him. - 1Cor & 1 Thes. below

Hope this helps. I no longer worry about someone being in hell and suffering or being in heaven suffering because they are watching their loved ones going through rough times.

John 11:11. These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. 12. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. 13. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. 14. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

Ecclesiastes 9: 5. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward;

Luke 8: 52. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. 53. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

1 Cor. 15:51. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

MY FAVORITE
1 Thes. 4:13. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (go before) them which are asleep. 16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Might as well ask if we have an eternal identity and even personality.

If we have an eternal identity then it would seem that identity would carry on despite the death of the body.

Taking this as true then perhaps death is just like sleep. When we go to sleep we wake up in forgetfulness. Similarly, if we had amnesia we would forget whatever we had done good or bad. Then at death we would completely forget our activities in the present life and wind up taking birth somewhere depending on our consciousness and karma.

Christianity gives us hope for another life "life after death" We earn it by following god's words, however a great deal of people sin , some repent and some don't .. if you truly repent god will forgive you, if not then we'll live in sin for the rest of our life and not earn the true life which comes after this one which is sort of a "try-out field"Belief is blind it gives a person something he can clutch to in order to proceed with his life ... try reading the bible it would open a whole new world for you:)

Of course there is. Ask Mark Twain. When asked if he was afraid of death he replied something along the lines of "I was dead a long time before I was born and it didn't bother me then".

If you mean is there another life after this one, who cares? Enjoy this one, it's the only one you can really be sure of, despite what all the theists say and it is fragile.

Death is only of the human body that we need to survive on this particular planet at this time...this is not what we actually are...fact is, our essence is pure energy...an undying entity...a piece of the totality from which we originated from...and to which we return before going to the next playground.

The concept that we were given for death is a fearful one, when in truth, death is really just a way for us to get out of this dense physicality that we are in to re-birth into our spirit selves. It is just a passing just like being born here...See?

Some think there is, some think there is not, the answer can only be found through death. How can you know if there is anything beyond the door if no one who has gone through it has returned to tell you, and you wouldn't believe them even if they did, (would claim you were just imagining things, going crazy or just had a dream), and if there is no way to view beyond that door without the 'key'?

it's not so much life after death as life never ends, the soul is made up of living energy, energy can neither be created nor destroyed but it can be moved around, so when the vessel or body carrying this energy becomes unable to carry it anymore the energy leaves, causing the vessel to become inert, or dead. so basically when you die your soul will leave and will go wherever the hell you want.

Yes, there is life after death, but not in the same sense as most people who believe believe. When you die, you're body and mind disappear, but that consciousness that you experienced is you, and it is the same as the consciousness of everyone else who lives after you die. In that sense, you live until all sentient live forms go extinct.
