I have to agree with most of the people that like gas. Gas is more efficient and you can look to see how high the flame is. If it's too high or low you can adjust it instantly (where with electric it takes time for the temperature to settle to the new setting)
Gas is the winner hands down.

Gas is always better. You have more control over what you're cooking and it's usually cheaper to run, besides.
If you really enjoy cooking, look for a stove with burner grids that connect to one another (so that, if necessary, you can just slide a pot to another burner rather than lifting it). Another nice option is having one burner that's designed for a higher heat output (more BTUs) than the other three. Usually this stove will also come with another burner that's designed for simmering and you can turn REALLY low without it going out.
Good luck!

Have used electric coil, electric plate, propane and natural gas. I prefer gas by far. If you choose a different source than you are accustomed to-- be prepared for a learning curve-- they really aren't the same.
I bought a Maytag gas cooktop with sealed burners-- no more lifting that top up to say UGGGGGGG!! Mine is 4 burner-- there is a 5 burner-- but I'm not cooking that much anymore.
Oh-- my sister in law bought the glass induction top-- and hates it. It cost too much to toss tho.

all depends on what you're used to. do you have natural gas or propane? some stoves are gas top and electric ovens to beter control the heat. That should tell you something about what others think of gas and electric.

Gas is more efficient for a cooktop as it is off when it is off and on when it is on and offers better heat control. Electric is better for an oven as it maintains a more even temperature which is especially important when baking.

I like gas ... electric takes too long to heat up and cool down. Gas also gives you better control of how hight or low you want your heat to be.

Gas is far better than electric. electrics on top of that use a ton of energy and are less reliable

Gas is not cheeper but better to cook with. If you get a flat top you have to make sure your pots and pans are warp resistant. Id go with gas for sure.
