Personally, I like what one fox news commentator had to say about the situation. He said, pretty much, who cares what Mel Gibson thinks, since when did Mel Gibson's point of view need national attention. So he says some anti-Semitic marks, big deal, there's no need for the whole country to get all bent out of shape because of it.

Yes, right after 9-11, when I heard that the winner of Murder Small Town X was killed in WTC building collapse, someone asked me if I'd heard and I replied, "Yes, I wanted to cry. All of that money gone". I have never been so stupid in my life. I regret saying it all of the time. I added that second line because I didn't want to look stupid in front of my friends for being sappy, and just made myself look cold and heartless. I have apologized and prayed to God that I never make a faux pas like that again.

Mel meant every word of it. He's also a homophobe. He just doesn't normally discuss such things in public, but just with his Dad.
Alcohol loosened his lips but did not change his brain and his hatreds.

It wasn't "out of character." His movie Passion of the Christ portrayed the Jews as blood thirsty, thuggish looking evil people. Being drunk doesn't excuse actions or words, it simply lowers the normal inhibitions and filters that we normally use to regulate ourselves. He's an anti-semite, no excuses, he has as much owned up to that.

Yes and it was actually about Jews. I was mad at my boss who happened to be Jewish. He was a great boss who paid me well, etc. We just weren't getting along too well that day. I said to one of his interns "typical Jew - no wonder he's being so petty". I didn't realize until after I had said it that the intern was also Jewish. I felt really bad even tho' what I said wasn't all that bad.

Drunkeness removes inhibitions; it doesn't cause you to say things that are out of character. Remember what the Romans said: in vino, veritas (in wine, there is truth)!

Everyone does. The news just needs to be able to blow a story up as much as possible so people will watch it.
