I used to be on the Slim Fast diet. I would but one of the big mix containers, for around 10.00$ and I would buy 1% milk and make the drinks myself in the blender, for breakfast and lunch, and then I would have a sensible dinner! I saved allot of money this way, and lost 35 pounds in 2 months.

I know where you're coming from. If you tend to diet and fall into the habit of purchasing the Lean Cuisine's or Weight Watcher meals, they are expensive. But you can eat cheap and still lose weight. First off, stay away from all the frozen diet meals...the only thing losing weight is your bank balance.

Just think smart when you shop. You can eat frozen veggies fairly cheap, fresh fruit is the best way to go, chicken is fairly inexpensive...just shop around, read lables and you can eat without going broke.

Heck some fast food joints even offer side salads on their value menu for about a buck...

It depends on what you are trying to do. I personally try to gain weight. I am very poor, and find beans and rice are nutritous and very inexpensive. Dried beans are cheaper and healthier than canned but require complex cooking. This type food is heavy and cheap. Cooking is a great way to save money in response to your next question. If you are dieting to loose weight you can get gu and other such product at nutrition places before exercize, and take powdered proteins after, and never even eat. These seem expensive bc they are like $40 a can, but if you think of the 40 searvings as like 40 meals, well you do the math. Tilapia is a very mild tasting and inexpensive farm raised fish I eat a lot. This is healthy. I recomend eating. I look at sale papers and buy cheap food.

Not eating at all is "cheap" but lets be realistic. What ever your normal eating portions are, cut them in HALF. If you're not willing to do that then cut them by 25%. Quit drinking soda, even diet & drink just water. Start an exercise program. Nothing rigoris. Just walking a couple of blocks each evening, then working yourself up from there. After 1 week of this - if you stick to it - you will see a difference. I promise. You're not going to lose a ton of weight, but you will notice you'll feel better & your clothes will be looser. Once you get use to this then it is easier to walk a little further, & eat a little less.

the easiest way to diet "cheap" is purely to use portion control and to go for a 30 minute walk every day. Never eat more than 3 portions of ANYTHING at a time. A whole meal should be 3 portions or less. A portion should never be larger than the size of your palm.

This is the best season to diet. Fruits and veggies are so inexpensive right now. I use a ton of blackberries, which grow wild around here. Utilize that neighbor's apple tree that they never use, buy berries, melons, etc, in bulk. I know if I shop right, I can buy a 20 lb bag of apples for 5 bucks

Invest in a dehydrator and freezer bags. I love dehydrated apples and bananas and eating them later in the year, and frozen blackberries will last you the entire year that way.

Do not think just because the label says diet, low cal, or low fat means that it is something you need. Some companies like to capitalize on such things. A product that has alway been nutritionally sound, but he company throws the word diet on it and charges a premium. Best thing you can do it read labels and watch your portions.

Don't eat: rice,pasta,bread,or potatoes

Cut your sugar intake way down -There are tons of good sugar free products

In about two weeks the weight will start to fall off.
walk 2- 3 mile every day (start off shorter if that is too far to start with)

Eat when you are hungry just choose things you can eat (don't let yourself be hungry or you will fail) and cheat every 5 days or so with something like ice cream, bread ect.

This will work-it's easy just make yourself do it for first 2 to 3 weeks-after that it's a breeze

All Best

Try this, I've lost 45 lbs in 5 months or so, call it what you may but it worked for me... without any strech marks left behind, or feeling weak while doing it.
I ate: meats with salad on the side (chicken, fish, red meat, in that order; but no pork nor lamb)
Ate: fruit, salads, yogurt and cottage cheese with fruit in it.
For cravings: peeled cucumber with salt and pepper or little salad dressing, or any other vegetable that you may really like to nibble on.
Stayed away from: (starched foods) bread, spaghetti, rice ( even a little bit, due to temptation of eating more).
No soft drinks nor alcohol.
Very light dinner.
Small portions through out the day. Make them fun to eat.
It really works !!!

plan it.

Plan your meals, so that you can buy the fresh or frozen vegetable, and prep them yourself. this stuff is only expensive if you buy it ready to eat, but lettuce heads, zucchinis, carrots, broccolis, celery, squash, peppers are totally affordable. Make veggie broils on the BBQ or in the stove, or prepare them raw in sticks to take with you.
On the protein side, you can still do eggs - yummy! -chicken breasts, lean ground beef.... Invest on a few spices, maybe you can even plant some! - to season your food... make a weekly plan, drink water (no sodas, no wine), I bet you'll lose fast, and for half the price of your normal food bill!!!
