If you are interested in TV there are always shows like Big Brother, Survivor, Biggest Loser, Idol and other reality shows which gives your average Joe, (excuse the pun) an opportunity to showcase themselves.
I have heard "take any promotional job, no matter how crap, to crack the industry, modelling, advertising,TV spots even the guy in the chicken suit, audition, audition, audition and don't give up"
There are also talent agencies but I also hear they can be testing
