Thats depends on the people. The basics have to be the same, morals, life goals, expectations, character. But if you are talking about things like hobbies or political views or even religion as long as people can agree to disagree and not take the other persons different views personally it can work. Sometimes it can be good to have someone who has a completely different way of looking at things, it causes you to see things in a way you wouldn't have thought of on your own and that is a good thing.

It is essential to have some common interests and a similar point of view regarding important things, however, opposites do attract..... if 2 people are too much alike, one of them isn't necessary. Part of the journey in any relationship is finding the balance.

I think it's okay to have some interests that are not shared with your partner but should agree on important things like values, roles in the relationship etc....little differences but not opposites too much conflict

it would have to be a healthy mix of both ....having similar tastes and interests helps u to bond , while being opposite in some ways , helps in trying out new experiences and learning from each other . extreme characteristics need a lot of working on in any relationship.

you definitly need to have some similar interest to keep a relationship. but not EXACTLY the same. its always nice to have a mixture of differences and similarities. the major things like religion, and morals are nice to be similar but sports and hobbies dont have to be so much alike.

For me, it's opposites. I dated a guy who was very much like me and all we did was argue because we both were so head strong and liked to win! My husband is the opposite of me. He is the level-headed, calm, hates to argue guy. I'm firey and am always ready for a fight. We've lasted this long because we compliment each other. He can bring me down when I need to be brought down and I can light a fire under him when he needs it.

it's better to be best friends first and then do as much as you can for and with each other to help the other partner be happy and satisfied. friendly, loving cooperation & good will works for us - oh, and letting go of our need to 'BE RIGHT' helps a lot.
