It depends. You can tell which ones are lying though.
I am generalizing, however I have found that those who have actually read the bible will debate and argue calmly and rationally and will not resort to personal attacks (IE saying "You're going to hell). When you counter their argument, they concede or rationally bring up a supporting reference and move on.
When someone is lying about reading the bible, they are vindictive and irrational. Just listen to the way they argue and debate. They will make a statement, saying it is from the Bible. Most of the time, their statements are interpreted through sermon and they are unable to locate their reference when I hand them one of mine. They have no valid support for their statements which of course gives no credibility to their appeal. It's quite entertaining.

Why would a Christian lie about something like that?
When I first became a Christian I read the Bible all the way though word for word. Even in the book of Kings, I read every last word about every king. Why did I do that? Just wanted to know every thing that was in there and wanted to say I read every word.
I have read through the Bible several times after that but notice I said THROUGH THE BIBLE. When I came to the listing of boring things I skimmed over it.
I believe most Christians have had the same experience and are not lying.

Most christians think they know what is in the bible because they go to sunday school and church and the teachers/preachers read parts of it then explain what it means .
If a person attends church long enough, the major stories and characters of the bible get covered, however there are a lot of stories that NEVER get talked about in church. Some of it isn't fit for mixed company.
Personally, I had read the entire bible from cover to cover over 28 times by the time I was 18 years old. I continued studying the bible "topically" for a number of years after that.
I know MOST people who claim to believe the bible is the factual word of god have never read the entire thing. There is NO way a person could read all of it enough to really get what is being said there and continue to believe that it is the perfect word of god.
The more I read/studied it, the less I believed that it was the word of god. God just doesn't behave the way that book describes him. God just doesn't demand that humans behave the way that book describes it.
People who read it understand that it is the opinions of VERY ancient people... not the word of god.
How could it be possible for Bronze age people who had no idea why bad weather happened, disease, famine, and pestilence happened be capable of knowing everything about something as complicated as GOD.

I don't care if they've read the entire Bible or not--all I care about is that they live good lives and are good people. If they're trying to fake you out and act like they're better than thou because they've read the Bible, then they clearly weren't paying attention and need to focus more on their spiritual growth than on reading a book. I mean, Jesus didn't read the whole Bible--it wasn't all written yet, and would you say he was a bad person for not reading it? I guess you'd have to think about how that person is in general--if they're the kind of person who would lie to conform to some religious standard instead of being a good person, then yeah, they're probably lying about reading the whole Bible. But some people do read the whole thing--it's not like it's impossible or anything. Some parts do drag a little, but it can be done.

No. Because maybe they have read the entire Bible... but most debates end up with them only picking a couple of verses to support their view anyway, so does it matter if they've read the whole thing from front to back? Not really... not when they become pulpit parrots.

Nope, why would they want to if they are really Christian? I know of many that read it through every year and some that read it more than once a year. One that I know knew it word for word and could quote any part of it you wanted from memory alone. Spend enough time with it and anything is possible.

I'm a Christian and I haven't read the entire Bible. Is that some sort of pre-requisite or something?? It's not my job to judge whether or not they have.

not the ones who pass judgment on others. those who creep around these pages passing judgment on others that are different, whether it's race, sexual orientation, or those who are not Christian....those people "use" the Bible out of context to justify their own hatred/ignorance/bigotry.
I think those who have actually read and thoroughly understand the entire Bible are not so intolerant.
