I have the family room pre-wired for the home theater speakers. I did get the omni-mount brackets. The instructions that came with the brackets is not very helpful. I am looking for instructions / guidance to attach these brackets. Any pictures showing the ceiling mounting would be useful.
I am basically confused about retaining the plates that are currently put to conceal the wires.. should I leave it up there or not.
If I remove the platres, the holes for the screws does not line up with the brackets.

Here is what I am thinking.
1. Keep the plate as it is.
2. Drill two holes in the existing plate to attach the brackets.
3. Drill another hole in the plate to take the wires out.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can purchase some wall plates with binding posts to attach your speakers easily or go with your plan. Just find a stud to attach the mount to or purchase some metal anchors that will hold alot of weight. Drill a hole in your plate and h/u the wires. As far as your brackets, attach one half to the speaker and the other half to the ceiling then attach to each other, then hook up your wires.

The option you listed is the best option. But I would recommend getting a metal plate before you do that and not a plastic one.
Or dry wall over the hole, and mount your speaker next to it.
