there is a church in Topeka Kansas where the "so called"pastor does demontrations and gay bashing pickets. I drove by one of these pickets the other day and i saw a child no older than 6 yrs old holding a sign with a picture of 2 men with one behind the other bent over...under the picture was the statement "God hates America" how is it this man can teach a child to hate before he learns to love is beyond me. Do you approve of this or not,and why? http:www.godhatesamerica.com

If he is a pastor, he is a hypocrite and someone that I would not go to church with.

It is really sad that a 6-yr. old has to partake in demonstrations. And God hates no one, so that makes him all the more hypocritical.

This happens everyday all over the world. People tell little kids that strangers are bad and they use the same line for homosexuals or other religions. They just don't hand the kid a sign and stand him on the street. The damage is still being done. Children don't understand the difference between an opinion and a fact. If their parent or church tells them that something is bad then the people doing it must also be bad. We should teach our children tolerance and love. That would be my opinion but the fact is everyone should be allowed to believe and live as they choose. We can only effect the people around us with love. If you hold up a sign preaching back at them they will only push harder. Lead by example and maybe someday we will change this world into a more accepting one.

There is a church in Anchorage, Alaska where the pastor preaches hate against gay people about every other Sunday (their services are televised).

A lot of well-off, otherwise intelligent people attend the church, it is the largest church in Anchorage. I do not get it either. I do not go to church to listen to hate.

Several years ago this pastor had his members along side the road by the church smashing Elvis Presley albums because Elvis was EVIL. This is sad but I could not help but laugh when I saw them doing it.

The church is the "Anchorage Baptist Temple." It is also very strong politically in town. When the pastor wants something "his way" he has his very large congregation vote that way, call their representatives, lobby the legislatures, etc. It is very odd and a little frightening.

Thank you for asking that question. It got a lot of us thinking.

The bible is clear on how God feels of homosexuality and even though He hates the lifestyle, just like anyother sin, He loves the sinner. But, i do believe there is a right way to show somone it's wrong. I love your statement, "how is it this man can teach a child to hate before he learns to love" this is truth, honesty, and to the point. If he claims to be a christian, then he would remember and understand the "COMMANDMENT" Christ gave us to love your neighbor as yourself and everybody we come in contact with or walk by is our neighbor and of course this includes homosexuals. Also to treat others the way you want to be treated, and if you hate your neighbor youve commited murder in your heart. This is the main reason people dont want anything to do with christianity and this is certainly what Christ Himself doesnt want. Christian have drug Gods name through the mud because we cant live like were commanded to. Its hard to not do wrong but when you blatantly show hate and become a stumbling block to others, i guess simply put be a open hypocrite, it makes the rest of us who are trying look bad and makes our God look mortal and weak or not real at all. I mess up with sin, i sadmit it, but the sin i commit is stuff i do that only God sees. I hardley ever do things were the public can see. I dont struggle with drugs or drinking or smoking or sexual immorality outside my home, or have a filthy mouth. Ive struggled with pornography from 12yo and became addicted and finally was able to come up for air around the age of 24. This is my struggle. But to openly live as the world and claim to be a christian out loud is the worst thing hurting christians. Hey great statment.

If you think about it taking any child and frightening them with stories about a judgmental god, hellfire and damnation, is child abuse.

It is just accepted because so many people believe in this nonsensical idea of God.

This is not only an insult to the real unconditionally loving God; it is the source of a lot of the hatred in the world today. The fellow you are talking about is just one example of this hatred. Bush and his crew of crusade launchers is yet another. There seems to be no end to the stupidity this judgmental small g god is ok with.

I personally consider it immoral to condemn homosexuals for no rational reason. That ancient peoples had an unjustified abhorence for homosexuality is not a good reason for modern peoples to continue the practice. To borrow some of Thomas Jefferson's words: A person being a homosexual "neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." So why should I be against them?

That said, I believe these people have the right to express their views as long as they break no laws.

As for the child's participation, the very idea makes me cringe, but I see no reason to abridge the parents' right to pass on their views to their progeny unless the child is in actual physical danger.

Religious extremists can justify all sorts of hate. Most religious people don't, though. The Bible, and religious teachings as a whole, are vague and contradictory so you can find in them what you want. Angry, hateful, meanspirited people look to religion to validate their feelings and it does- they find plenty of evidence for a vindictive, punishing, wrathful god who wants them to save souls by condemning sins they don't like. On the other hand, gentle, loving, caring, empathetic people look to religion and find a kind, forgiving, loving god who wants them to be good to others. In most cases it isn't the religion causing them to act as they do, they'd act that way with or without the religion. Sometimes, unfortunately, otherwise kind people can be convinced by religious arguments that they must become more judgmental and cruel. That's a real tragedy.

This "church" is a sick example of people that hide behind religion to advance their bigotry. They speciallize in protesting at military funerals just to provoke a violent response from the attendees. Then they sue the city for not protecting them. This is not an example of a well-founded, Bible believing Christian Church. I live in Oklahoma and we have now passed laws banning this group from protesting within a certain distance of funerals.

well, I am one that does not approve of this pastors action.
How he can serve in this position I do not know.
Seems, that perhaps the association to which his church might be member need to look at taking away his privileges to serve as a pastor. I think you and I both know where he will go on the last days.
