Is there any concrete information that confirms that being homosexual is in the genetic make up of the person? If you can give references. I'd prefer supported answers rather then uninformed opinions. Thanks

With all this, I'm really just looking for supported ideas as I see a lot of arguments and adoment responses from people saying that being gay is genetic so I am curious who said this and how it's supported with such an advancement in genetic research. I have no alterior motive, just want to see where this info is being pulled if people are so insistant about this idea.

Though I have my own opinion I'm not here to proclaim that, just to gather information and see what other people are saying is truth and how it's supported within scientific research. So hurling insults just makes you seem ignorant as I'm not pushing my own views whatsoever.

Several genetic areas are involved in sexuality, and differences in these areas have been identified in homosexual males. NO ONE'S sexuality is understood in genetic terms. There is a myth that we have the entire genome figured out just because we know the sequence of the molecules. Nope, sorry.

There is no such thing as a "gay gene". There was a series of articles many years ago (which I kept for a long time) that had a valid explanation, and they appeared in Playboy! The authors of these articles were all expert professionals and they conducted extensive research.

The 23rd chromosome is called the "sex' chromosome, because it determines the sex of a newborn. An "x" chromosome is the female chromosome, while the "y" chromosome is the male chromosome. Each newborn receives 2 sex chromosomes, one from the mother and one from the father.

(All chromosomes are received in pair: one from the mother and one from the father. They complete each other or compete for domination. Thus with a parent with blue eyes and another with brown eyes, the kids will inherit either, or the color of a grand-parent or great grand-parent, because genes do jump generations.)

The mother always supplies an "x" chromosome, always. The father can supply either. If the newborn receives 2 "x" chromosomes, it is a female. But if the newborn receives both chromosomes, then the "y" chromosome must dominate the "x" chromosome to produce a true male.

Im some cases, this does not work properly. The domination is not complete; but they are various degrees. These chromosomes affect several hormones and depending on which hormones are produced at which percentage; the results are different, and too numerous and complex to go in details here.

Suffice here to say that the results are a female mind in a male body or vice-versa, to various degrees. For example, the researchers suprisingly find that "butches" had a "y" chromosome that never dominated. So they are, genetically speaking, males.

This very well explained the phenomena of "aphrodites": great looking females that have male sexual genitalia. Many such real pictures can be find on the internet.

This does explain gay men, but what about true females who have 2 "x" chromosomes and therefore where domination is not a factor.

The researchers have found that most of the lesbians either had had bad experiences with men, were afraid of them because of erroneous education or could only find the sensibily, tenderness and understanding they crave, with other women.

It's too bad I cannot remember the year and months of the publication of these articles, but maybe with a bit of research you could find them. Try the 70s or the 60s. I read quite a lot and these articles were the best I ever found on this subject.

No, there is no proof yet. However there is are several on going studies in this field and it is becoming more widely accept. Below is just one article on the matter. It shows that the genes get changed while in the mother womb.

A lot of changes happen with in the mothers womb than can cause many things such as hair loss, color of ones eyes, and even ones sex. Why is it so hard to believe that if this is where your sex is determined that there might be a connection to your sexual orientation.

I like a couple of my friend also hope that his is proven and ends the argument of "being gay is a choice". However on the other side I must also agree if they did find out it was a genetic trait would they attempt to do away with that trait?

Find the website for the news magazine TV program "60 Minutes" and go back about 10 weeks. (I looked it up, it was March 12) They did a really informative piece on the status of such research. A lot has been done over the years with studies of twins and twins raised apart from one another, and other cool research on mothers of multiple sons. Seems that when a woman has a gay son, and other, non-gay sons, it is much more likely that the gay son is born last, or at least later in the birth order. The hypothesis on this is that a male fetus gives off male hormones, and the mother sends antibodies to her womb to combat these male hormones as they are a foreign substance. In times she has so many antibodies that with a later son, his male hormones are affected. This stuff is way preliminary, but it's fascinating. I'm sure I haven't explained it as well as they did on the show, so go order a transcript if you really want to know. It was a great piece.

IF you really preferred "Supported Answers," then the answer is NO....the question is very badly worded and can have NO answer other than NO. !!! There is NO scientific proof of ANYTHING. There are results, there are data, there are indications, there are findings, there are indications, but there is NO proof in science, only theories. Genetic research shows that there is indication that many Gays have a genetic difference at two sites that does not match "Straight sites" genes. This can only be theory, as many straight lie their @$$ off about their sexual preference. Your question seems to imply that being Gay is a choice...if so, then it follows, logically, that being Gay is preferable to being Straight (since you infer that we are ALL born Straight)...If your logic is correct, it follows that being Gay is a preferred form of sexuality, and the churchs, preachers, etc. must demonize the choice for fear that ALL men will elect to become Gay. May I ask you, at what age did you make a conscience decision NOT to be gay??? By inference, you must have made that decision after careful consideration. Did your bible influence your decision? Was it peer pressure from your friends who were also fighting with the decision??? I would really like to know how you decided NOT to become Gay, since you had a choice.

Sexual orientation is a complex phenomena that cannot be attributed to any one particular gene. At present, most authorities on the topic would concur with the idea that sexual orientation is the result of a number of factors including genetics, prenatal factors, and perhaps even postnatal factors.

Heavens No! It is a choice. Read Romans chapter 1 in The Holy Bible that says it is a personal choice. They are reprobates-rejected by God. That means they are bound for hell. If they do not turn from their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior from all their sins, they will go to hell, not heaven. They need our prayers.

No proof, only theories, and a "gay gene" idea is now being shoved away for other ideas.

You can read and watch more about the theories here: http://borndifferent.org/

I hope it is not proven to be one gene because if it is they will try to find a prenatal test for it so they can abort all homosexual fetus
