I did find a way to get more credits. It is cheesy, but it works. Just find someone that you IM a lot and take turns inviting each other to chat. You close your conversations after a few minutes and you get the 50 credits for accepting the invitation. We did this for a few times and accumulated over 300 points this way. There is no limit to how many times you can invite each other to chat and you get credits each time you accept. So you have to take turns.

This isn't a game, it is an IM service. There are no cheat codes for credits. These are things you may actually have to buy. You can always try spinning the Jackpot spinner, you have to pay 75 credits per spin, or you could log on once a day to spin for free. You can also view the new products place for anywhere between 1 and 50 credits, just for trying new stuff out. You can also invite a bunch of friends. Every time they buy credits you get credits, too. Don't forget to visit the websites where they offer free credits in a contest format. Other than this there is no way to scam them out of credits. It is done this way to make sure that the artists get paid for their work.

IMVU is a graphical instant messaging client (3D chat) currently in beta stage with more than 1 million users. [1] The basic IMVU client is free.

The primary focus of IMVU is the ability to use personalized 3D avatars and environments that let the user interact with the person they’re chatting with. Full 3D scenes make users feel as if they are sitting with a friend in a coffee shop, on a Ferris wheel, etc. The secondary focus of IMVU is allowing the members to develop content that can be sold to other members for use in personalizing their avatars and environments.
