I've heard something about toothpaste...but I dont know if that works or not. It's a cd for a computer game if that makes any difference.

Toothpaste does work, but not for deep scratches, as toothpaste is an abrasive (kind of like sand paper), that's how it gets your teeth clean. If you put a small amount of toothpaste on and rub HORIZONTALY (not in a circular way, because the data is stored in a different way to on a record) it should do the CD no harm at all.

Local to me is a store that sells used CD's.
They use a buffer to take out the minor scratches on CD's before selling them.

Toothpaste acts like a fine polishing compound.
You might try a little toothpaste with a felt tip on a dremel tool.

First of all, even if you remove the scratch the damage is still done. CDs are very sensitive. I've heard of rumors, such as using toothpaste and even peanut butter. However, these are ineffective and may harm your CD even further. Taking it to a professional CD repair shop is the best option; they can remove scratches and even restore damaged data.

However, the only real effective home remedy is to take care of your CDs and keep them clean using a mild astringent and wipes.
