Zizou spoke to the management of Real early this year and informed them of his intent to retire. Due to this they organised his farewell match in may 06 prior to the WC commencing. His brother, wife and family were in attendance and he was retired in the 90th minute as the coach wanted him to walk from the field alone so the crowd could show their appreciation. And they did, with a standing ovation that deafened the Stadium. After the overtime play Zizou returned to the field extremely emotional, to thank the fans and supporters, and they thanked him also. So yes, he has completely retired and will live between the two countries.

He retired completely form playing soccer.
His last march with Real Madrid was 17/06, he confirmed during the World Cup that he wouldn't be playing anymore. Perhaps there will be an exhibition farewell match but as far as competition, he's not playing anymore.

according to Wikipedia Zizou has retired from Real Madrid & is not mentioned in squad for 2006/2007 that should clear it up for you.

yes he is, even he still got one more year on contract to stay in madrid he choosed to retired and payed some money to real madrid.
