I got a shot at a very good job. Human resources called me, the man said he would like to offer me a position with the company. However I will be getting a formal job proposal via e-mail and at that time I should give my current job a two week notice. So I guess before I get the proposal they will check out my record and also check to make sure I have my license just in case I should ever need to use a company car. I do have my drivers license but three years ago I was found under the influence and with drugs(more than once) since then I have been good and I am no longer leading that sort of life style. But if asked what shall I say?

Exactly what you just told us....you made some mistakes in your life....you learned from your mistakes, and you've changed your ways. If they are reasonable....they will see the progress you've made!

Hope this helps!

So what happend when you were 'found under the influence and with drugs (more than once)'. Did you go to trial, were you convicted, were you in jail, where the charges dismissed. You have to be honest, because the company will find out if you have a criminal record. A record is different than having charges filed against you that were dismissed. Did you have an attorney. If so, call him if you don't know what your criminal record is.

Worst thing for you to do is to lie, and the new company to find out the facts later then fire you. If that happens, you will not have the new job or old.

I have been told, companies doing background checks are not that unusual, and criminal records are public record.

Tell them the truth but be sure to add that you have changed since then.

The truth, because from my experience, criminal background checks are done at almost every job now, there are companies that specialize in finding out if you have a record, come clean or risk not getting a job when they find out the truth .

No lie will save you here. If you tell the truth, you might not get the job, but if you lie, you'll definitely not get it. Or you might get it, then get found out.

I'd say what you said here, explain how you learned from that experience, how you've changed andhow much this chance means to you.

It might not work, but it's better than lying. If they ever find out the truth, they won't trust a word you say, and you'd probably get fired immediately.

Good luck!

Concerning a job, if it as very good job they are going to check your background and if they ask you about it and you lie, it will probably mean that you wouldn't get the job. Just be honest. Most people will see if you have it on your record and you are honest about it that you will be honest with the work that you do.

Always be honest. Chances are your employer will find out the truth anyway. Your credibility will be shot and lying on your application is grounds for dismissal. Have a heart to heart talk with the employer. Tell him you did something stupid. It's the only way to go.

Honesty works best, especially if they find out later, you'll have a clear conciense, and they will have no ammo to use against you. This way, they may even hold you in higher esteem because you are honest, lol. No one can fault you for being honest, but they can for lying.

Do not give it a 2nd thought...let them know of the previous challenges. It is not only your responsibility to be honest, but this is a very important time in your life to be accountable for your previous actions. This is a milestone in the cycle of life. This is a milestone in recovery, this is life --- keep in clean!

Tell the truth, I used to work for the DA's office in my county and I know that they did hire people with that type of background, but they absolutely appreciated the truth and it gives you so much more credit in their eyes.
