No, but since everyone and their dog has a DVD player it doesn't seem to matter anymore.

It takes 12' WII Discs so I'm not sure, Nintendo said nothing about it though, I'll try e-mail them, or you can.
The WII also takes 8' Gamecube Discs, it's backwards compatible...TOTALLY OFF THE CHAIN IN GAMING!
Just because it MIGHT not play DVDS doesn't mean it isn't a must have game system...BECAUSE IT IS!

I have been wondering the same thing though!

YES IT DOES TAKES DVDS, YOU WILL ONLY NEED YO BUY AN ESPECIAL ACCESSORY (WHICH IS NOT GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE)
ALLOWING THE Wii TO TAKE DVDS, NINTENDO IS CORRECTING ONE OF THE MISTAKES THEY MADE WITH GAMECUBE
