I am always so upset by things. Things people say, things people do. I don't want to feel this way. I just do. Please don't say I need meds. I don't want meds. Have been in consoling since the beginning of the year. It just does not seem to be helping. I love my husband he is great. I love my job but I don't care for the people I work with. I just feel so mental sometimes. Don't get my wrong. I am not looking for pity. I know there are starving children in Somalia. I grew up in a loving family. My parents have been married for 30 years. Has anyone else struggled with mild depression. Please share your story with me? How did you over come it. Is anyone out there an MD? What do you think. I am by far no where near suicidal. Just down a lot. I don't even cry very often. Please Help!

After reading some of your responses I need to remind you I am seeing a psychiatrist and I do not want meds. I also failed to mention I work for my moms. She is not the problem. She is rarely there. I exercise 5 days a week for at least an hour.

i am mildly depressed also. i have good days and bad days. sometimes you feel sad for no reason at all. you say that you don't cry much but actually crying is good for you. its mother natures way of releasing the sadness and depression. taking walks and getting more natural light and exercise would be wonderful. nothing has to be wrong to be depressed...i mean just watching the news is depressing...listening to other peoples problems can be depressing. aging can bring on depression. i know what you mean about no meds, my sister has been on everything and hers isn't any better, shes dependant on the meds. i won't let myself get that way so i do what i can and fight it. do things that make you happy...finding inner peace...find yourself a quiet time to be at peace...learn to relax...meditate...natural light from the sun is great and i hope some of this can help

Yes, there are a few thing's you can do, 1st chose to be happy, when thing's don't quite your way. Chose to learn if possible from it, find the humor that others may see in it. Happy people are happy because they want to be. They didn't learn to be happy overnight, and some pretty crappy thing's happen to all of us. Some morning's none of us feel like getting out of bed, but at the end of even a very rough day, I'm glad I did. Because I didn't miss it. Sometimes I'm glad that i survived it. And tomorrow I have a chance to make it better for me and those that I care about.
I hope this helps in some small way.

You need to lighten up. Easier said than done I know but sometimes it takes something life THREATENING to learn not to sweat the small stuff.

A lot of times just a change in the "routine" of things can help lift your mood.

If you don't like the people you work with, make up a resume and start applying for other jobs....when you get one LEAVE.

Take up some form of physical exercise, an aqua fit clas, join the running room, belly dancing, anything....even just grabbing a few of your favorite cds and going for a brisk walk for 30 minutes a night outside.

When you feel yourself getting into the 'blue funky mood' change your activity and go and DO something. If you are sitting at the comuter feeling blue go and do a load of laundry or clean out a drawer or call a friend or read a magazine.

Just remember if you do nothing, then nothing changes

and...

If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem

Maybe you could ask your doctor for a prescription for some VERY MILD tranquilizers like Lorazepam for a SHORT PERIOD OF TIME not something wicked like Paxil.

Good Luck

From what you're saying you care too much about other people's opinions. So I would assume that you lack confidence in yourself and this is enough to stop anyone feeling good.
If you feel mildly depressed, you have to investigate the reasons why you feel this way. I would go to a psychoanalyst, that's what they are trained to do. Choose someone you feel comfortable with who will help you pick up the pieces of the depression jigsaw in order to get better and feel free to be well.
I don't think there is such a thing as not wanting to be happy as someone said because we all naturally lean towards happiness. But there's something stopping you from feeling well in your shoes. This may be a set of things or one major event. So avoid psychiatrists who prescribe drugs but do see a psychoanalyst. It takes some time to feel better but it will work if you decide to sort your life out. Good luck to you and let us know how you get on.

I have felt this way before too. Everybody did things that made me angry some way or another and I could never find a way to get over it. Not a severe depression, but I just felt down, and always bitter. I found that working out, and staying in excellent shape has helped me to get over it. I have more energy to deal with the crap of others and I have realized that things like that shouldn't bother me.

When someone does something that bothers you, just shrug it off. "whatever". Things other people do shouldn't make a difference in your life. You're in control aren't you?? Forget what they do, focus on what you do. You don't need that down-low feeling just because of somebody else. Go have fun, work out, and enjoy life.

Been there. If you had a bad cold or the flu, you'd take something. Depression is an illness just the same as others. Its nothing to be ashamed of. If counseling isn't working, you should consider seeing a doctor for meds. It took me over a year of counseling along with a modest drug therapy to pull me out.

My husband is in the AF and we just moved to Germany. I have never been so depressed in all my life!!!!!!!! I have gone through all the feelings from guilt, to anger, to just plan boredom. I cried all the time and felt so isolated! I love hiking and getting out but being depressed I didn't even leave the house. I use to love to cook but even stopped wanting to cook. It was really bad!!!! I am also struggling with the whole baby idea. I really want a baby but fear being a mother. So that made me depressed too because I felt like I should be ready to have a baby. Totally overwhelmed!!!
What has helped me is my dog and food. I take my dog out on long hikes (even on days I don't want to leave the house) and bring the camera! I take pictures of horses and of flowers and stuff. It really opens up my mind for happiness. Also, I force myself to go to the store to get stuff to make homemade pizza, and ravioli and cookies and cake. This too makes me feel better.
Being away from your husband will really allow you to appreciate your life together more. Stay will family for a week or two to clear your mind!! Good luck!

I had the same problem when I was about 26. I realized that the people in my life were pissing me off. Not to mention I hated my job. You just need to realize that YOU make your life what it is. If someone else is bringing you down don't make excuses for them just leave them behind. It's not as hard as you think. Once you tell someone to go F themselves you'll realize how much power you have over yourself.

You have to CHANGE the way you look at things.
#1. your attitude toward meds, sounds like they would help you (been there done that).
#2 continue your counseling or consider changing counselor if it's not helping, counseling is all about finding the right person.
#3 Be aggresive about getting better. Read books join a 12 step group or group counseling.
YOU CAN DO IT
