It is based on your pre-tax income.

Hey Don, you might be forgetting that in New Testament times, the law of consecration was enacted in which everyone gave 100% and the church took care of everyone out of that money. Even though that was required, people still had to decide in their hearts to give. There is a story of one man who didn't give the money he made from selling some land to the church and when Peter questioned him, he lied. I can't remember the exact book and chapter and I don't have a Bible on me, but that was the case. Your quote doesn't mean churches are wrong for requiring a tithe (which actually means 10%) because people still have to decide in their hearts to obey the requirement or not.

I really don't think pre-tax or post-tax should be a question, what matters is that you are giving. Not just 10% per se, but above and beyond, you know? If someone feels concerned they are not giving enough then I think they should give more. The Lord always provides. No matter what it is all for the glory of the Lord, right?

This is a personal decision, but think about it this way. Tithing is a way of showing gratitude to God for all the blessings that He's given you. Are you only grateful for the money He gave you after taxes?

When the TEMPLE is rebuilt there might be someplace to tithe to.

In the meantime TITHING IS NOT CHRISTIAN!

Q. My best friend attends a Church that insists on "Tithing". What can I tell her?

A. Your friend attends a church that is still under the impression that Christians

are still under the Mosaic Laws! Point out 2 Corinthians 9: 7 " Each man decided

in his own heart to give....."

Tithes are not commanded under the New Testament; we are to give as we are prospered (1 Corinthians 16:2).

do what your heart tells you to do. If you feel that it is appropriate to give it based on your usable income then do so, if you feel it should be based on pre-tax then that should by what you do. since you have to ask the question then you should search your heart it decide if it is a love offering or an obligation.

Pre-tax, because it means more money for the church. But of course, you're always free to give MORE.
