The mayo thing is that if you put enouqh on your scalp and all through your hair, it is supposed to smother the lice and kill them that way.
Don't know from experience, though. I've never had lice!

Tea tree oil in the infusion that Madame Sophia recommended. It stinks to high heaven, we call tea tree oil boyfriend repellent at my house. I work with homeless and have gotten nasty cases before. The rid and the nix work on the immediate problem of live lice and the itching, but they don't have enough poison to do a normal head of hair more than once. You will end up buying a dozen kits by the time you do everyone in the household. From experience, try the tea tree oil. Available at walmart in the pharmacy for about $3 a bottle. Lavender and peppermint oil are at the natural food shop.
For spraying the house, you can use flea spray, it is a little bit cheaper and comes in a bigger can. That tiny can of lice spray makes you feel like you have to hold back when it comes to spraying the furniture. The trick there is SATURATION. Also, vacuum everything constantly for about two weeks.
I hope this helped. Anyone who works with the homeless gets exposed, and I have had more than my share. This works.

I had a really stubborn case of what I called mutant head lice from he**. I used vegetable oil with 5 drops each tea tree oil, lavender oil and peppermint oil, put a shower cap over my head, wrapped my bedpillow in a trashbag and a clean pillowcase (to protect the pillow and smother the lice inside it) and slept with that overnight. The next morning I washed my hair with Dawn dish soap (I assume any kind will work but Dawn was what I had) and repeated the entire process in a week. I used Lysol spray daily on the upholstered furniture and used Rid house spray for lice as directed and finally got rid of the nasty infestation I had picked up from who knows where. Good luck.

You have to go and buy some lice shampoo and lice spray and use as directed. Then you MUST wash all linens, pillowcases, clothes, etc. in hot water and dry in a hot dryer or the lice will come back. Use the spray for pillows, mattresses, furniture, rugs, etc.(those things that can't go in the wash)

~*~ I worked for a school district in an elementary school.. We dealt with alot of kids who had lice.. The nurse always recommended medicated lice shampoo and a special comb to remove nits and lice.... Its expensive but its the most effective.. From what I understand mayo doesnt' get rid of lice.. ~*~

You need to go to the drug store and get the kit and then wash all bedding and clothing that is exposed also after you get rid of them . This is how you can keep from getting them. Put leave in conditioner cause that can't stick to your hair then. Hope this is a help the home thing don't work.
Good luck!!!!

No, No, No! Don't do that. Mayo is full of oil and its greasy.
Go to any drugstore or supermarket and aske for a lice removal kit. You can buy one there.
Good Luck!
