It wont effect your criminal record, but it will effect your credit rating and prevent you from getting any government related jobs including security clearances. Trust me you do not want bad credit, pay your bills!

Not paying your credit card is not a criminal offense; it is a civil matter.
Credit card companies will hunt you down until they get their money. If you don't pay, or try to disappear from the radar they can obtain a judgement against you for the amount owed. This could include a trip to civil court.
Pay whatever you can towards the bill. Talk to the credit card company and tell them the amount that you can and will pay towards the debt each month and then DO IT! It is not worth ruining your credit because of one credit card debt. Many times credit card companies will settle the matter for a percentage of what is owed just to get it off of their system.

It's not criminal. You will be sued by the company in court (probably Circuit depending on the amount). If you fail to file a legitimate Answer stating why they are incorrect within 20 days, they will get a Default Judgment. You will be forced to pay the amount plus interest (usually 8 to 12% a year) and attorney's fees. They will garnish your wages and your bank account to get their money.
The only way you get a criminal record is if you break a law and are arrested and sued by the Government.
FYI--if you have bad credit, it will now increase your car insurance. The companies have conducted studies and individuals with bad credit are also more likely to get into accidents and get tickets.

It's only a crime if the company can prove you never had any intention to repay the debt. It's one thing if you have a card for a few years and hard times prevent you from making payments. It's fraud and criminal activity if you open five cards all at once, max them out and never make a payment.

There are no criminal charges for that, that is what a credit rating is for and if you do pay it off, then that's better.

It's not a crime to not pay a credit card bill, it just reduces your credit rating and sooner or later you'll have to pay it back.

No, it'll affect your credit! If the bank sued you... (for some reasons), it'll be on your criminal record.
