The Palestinians have been digging at them for a long time. Israel has tried diplomatic solutions in the past (exchanging 430 prisoners for 5, giving Gaza back to Palestine) but obviously they have not worked. This wasn't an overnight development.

But to answer the question, if the military ran the military and politics was not involved, it woild be a lot different.

First of all, we did when we attacked Afghanistan. Than we decided to take more initiative in Iraq and every one in the US was pissed. Thats how we got in this situation in the first place and no one supported us. As it is now retention is bad in the Army. People are getting deployed 2 and 3 times between Afghanistan and Iraq. If we went after every terrorist cell out there we would need an *** load more troops. So unless your voulunteering to go and fight maybe we should let the joint cheifs figure this one out.

Keep on thinking that way - maybe it will have an impact somewhere. I'm personnally tired of people complaining about the US being over in Iraq when apparently they have forgotten that they started the war by flying our planes into our buildings on our own land. Yet people choose to focus on the after-math with Bush's supposed validations as to why we are there . . .
We are there because they attacked us!

We need to cautious here else we could start a world war with Arabs. However I think the best way to deal with this is to kidnap the familes of insurgent, put them up in a Holiday Inn if you wish.
