That is a fantastic point. They should, they are no more, or have no more potential to be a hero than the guy behind the deli counter or school bus driver. I don't care for most cops anyway, it has nothing to do with authority or anything like that, Its just a certian type of person tends to seek out jobs like police officer and I guess i have a problem with that "type"

In many large cities and towns there is a growing crime rate and more criminals. There is a growing belligerance. More young people are on drugs, and it influences crime in the city. As the police deal with this rise of crime, they find they must adjust to the worsening behavior of an increased # of criminals, and too many of them have killed police as a reaction to being arrested.
Much of this makes the job of being a police man or police woman harder. When they leave home and go to work there is more uncertainty than there should be as to whether they will return at home. To handle a job like this these people have to have a pretty big concern with public safety. After all they could pick out a safer job if they wished.
And what would we do if most all of them did this? The criminals would have a field day! These police have to be heros to do their daily job. It's just the way it is today. The reason is that our cities are full of crime.

Not necesarily... But the fact remains that police officers are always in danger. At any given time, while driving through a drug infested neighborhood, while responding to a doemstic violence call or a bar fight these men and women can be attacked, hurt or shot......... yes, yes, yes, anyone of us can get hurt or be in a dangerous situation at any given time but how many of us actually look to go to these dangerous spots?? How many of us will volunteer to go break up a fight between gang members? how many will be willing to go after and arrest a person that just used an assault weapon to murder someone else?? How many of us will go to a house where a man was spotted with a bloody knife? Not many.

Why are they heros how about 911 with all the cops and fireman putting their lives on the line to save others. How about they help everone who askes for their help with problems or acts of crimes. I don't see that many on here that would do that, it takes a special man, or woman to protect all of us. God bless them all
