Yes. A friend of mine will travel a major highway near where he lives. If he sees a deer that wasn't there earlier he will check to see if they eyes are dried out. He'll put his hand under the thigh and feel if the carcase is still warm. If it is or the eyes are not dried out and obviously it is not bloated he'll take it home and fill his freezer. It taste the same if it is killed by Winchester or Chevrolet.

I read a book by a Forest Ranger (a woman) in the American South, who made a point of cooking recent roadkill. Some of her co-workers would join in. Apparently it's not that unusual, at least in the South. The idea is to get it fresh. (I can't remember the name of the book.)
