i don't want to kill it but i need to catch it before my dog does.(if you know what i mean)

put a sticky trap and it will work and pull reaally hard to get him off and there u go

peanut butter in one of those live trap contraptions! Why don't you want to kill it? I would use peanut butter on the biggest rat trap available.Those rodents carry disease and destroy property and will even bite you and if hungry will eat you.If there is a pack of rats they will attack you!

Try a glue trap. It's non-lethal and you can free the rat by pouring cooking oil over the glue.

rat trap. they have sticky ones so the rat will stick to it. Or else they have cages where the door will snap shut when it enters

get one at a pet store. u never know, that rat might have rabies...

corner it some how...and then get a box...then use a broom to get it in...good luck!!!
