I have known him forever it seems but just I can't tell him how should I do it

If you have been friends forever then it should come very naturally to you. Just joke around and say that you like him, but make sure that he feels the same way about you. Then if you to are on the same road, then drive right up to him and tell him for real.

Just tell him, if he is in a relationship then I wouldnt recommend this.... but if you are both single then you should just be open about it perhaps he feels the same way that you do but dont want to cause strain on the relationship... if the feelings arent mutual

Call him, and say, Hey, let's go get a dog...or whatever. While munching and chatting 'bout regular stuff, you could break it to him then. In a non-serious, non-psycho kinda way.
