I download A LOT of anime episodes and they are really taking up space on my computer since most of them are in avi. format. I want to put them (the episodes) on a DVD but I don't know if my computer can do that. I can burn Audio and Data CD's but I have no clue about DVD's. I tried to put the episodes on this blank DVD but it didn't work, I found out that my computer doesn't burn with DVD-R so it has to be positive R or W I think it was. So yeah the top drive says "DVD ROM" and the 2nd one says "Compact Disc ReWritable." I haven't bought the correct blank DVD's yet but I want to make sure I can burn DVD's. Anyone know?

It doesn't sound like you have a DVD burner. You mentioned that the drive said "DVD-ROM," which means you can play a DVD but you can't record material on to a DVD blank. Second, DVD-R is the oldest format for recordable DVD blanks, which makes it the most compatible format. So, you should be able to record and play a DVD-R disc on almost every drive.

Though you can't burn the avi video files to DVD, there isn't anything to stop you from burning them on to a CD blank. A Compact Disc ReWritable drive can record material on to a CD-R and CD-RW. There are a several free software programs that can burn files on to a CD blank, such as: DeepBurner and CDBurner XP Pro. You can download them from: www.filehippo.com/software/dvd/. You can also download a number of media players, which can play an assortment of video file formats, at: http://www.filehippo.com/software/multimedia/

If you are comfortable with installing a DVD burner on to your computer, you can purchase a retail version of an internal DVD burner at $40 USD + shipping. Retail versions come bundled with burning software while OEM does not.

If none of your drives say DVD Rewriteable then no, you can't burn DVD's.

You can buy a decent burner for about $40 at most computer stores, though you'll need to find someone to install it. You'll also need a DVD buring program as Windows XP cannot burn DVD's even if you have a DVD burner (stupid, huh?)

Check the drives in your computer - see if either one has an icon that says DVD-R/RW, then below/above that it'd probably say DVD rewritable in small print or sth. Either way you wont be able to just 'drag' the avi files on the dvd. You're gonna need some program to burn it with, i recommend nero. good luck

You would need to know if your computer supports a DVD drive and next, a DVD burner. If you just have a DVD drive, you cant burn DVD's

DVD-ROM is "read only memory". What you have will not burn DVDs. You can only watch them. You do have a CD burner so you could copy music or written data.
