Many conservationist, including Greenpeace had tried hard to stop Japan and other pro-whaling country from killing more whales. Every year, a meeting by the International Whaling commitee decides if whaling can be increase and Japan is pushing to hunt more whales each year. Everyone knows whales are very rare creature and many countries, like USA, Australia and New Zealand use whale wathing to promote their ecotourism and had lots of profit from it.

On the other hand, Japan hunts so much whales that they cannot sell most of the whale meat. Mnay whale meat are left frozen in the factories for months or maybe years. Japan also tried to sell it to other countries but none will buy. Even more than 70% of Japanese citizen are against whaling. So why do Japan still wnat to kill whales?

How can we put more presure to the whole world to take action and make Japan's goverment to stop whaling since they are so stubborn?

Even the Alaskan Inuit, US does is as well every year. Those inuit is killing more than 50 whales ever year. And the Maca(or Maka) race in Washington state also do it, they kills more than 100 a year. However, they are also for their life. World know it.
Japan does it legally and the numbers are allowed only 80-90 a year. It is less than USA.
It is called as "Research Program under Special Permit in the Antarctic". IWC know the number too.
Of course they sell the meat after the research, cos Japan don't want to waste the whale's life. It is necessary to know how many marine resources, including fishes, are eaten by those whale every year, Whaling countries know that whales are NOT very rare anymore. and they know whales are eating those marine resources away in the the sea.

You don't know much about whaling. do you homework first. You only insult those whaling nations.
If you wanna rise this topic, you should stop those minorities in US first. But you have no right to stop their traditional custom and life. The Japanese local custom either.

We cant go to war with Japan.... But we can help whales by setting up or joining Save the Whale programs. If you cant do that, here are some ideas to help

1. When on a boat in the ocean and you see a whaling ship, raise a save the whale flag high in the air to try to send them away.

2. Get the community envolved. Let them be a part of the solution instead if part of the problem.

3. Help kids understand about what Japan is doing. Make a little club and have meetings, let the kids give their ideas and take turnes trying the ideas out.

I hope you sucseed with these, I care about the whale to.

I Wish You Luck!

I look at the success of the anti-fur lobby in reducing the hunting of fur seals many years ago. Emotion-provoking facts and images made it a lot less desirable to be wearing the skin of a dead animal.

Whales are uniquely smart, long-lived, social, and loaded with toxins (being on top of the food chain). Conveying that info in a "March of the Penguins" type movie might reach more people.

Personally, I have been struck by the findings of stone harpoon points in bow head whales (Inuit adopted steel very quickly) which agrees with isotope studies of their teeth - some living today were alive during the Lincoln Administration. I figure at that point, giant tortoise or whale, you ought to get a free ride and not get turned into upper-end sushi.

We Humans as a species don't need whaling anymore.Either does any Inuit or any other American Indians. As well as Japan for their so called Research harvesting,Or any other country taking whales. As for the whales eating up all the marine fishers.I think its more humans over fishing. Why don't we re-stock all species that we harvest.Like re-planting the clear cut forest we take.
Bottom line is economics and greed for the dollar at any cost.

I wonder; why they cant use the whale meat to feed starving children in third world countries. Has anyone took it upon themselves to contact Christian organizations and groups who focus their efforts on feeding the hungry.

I believe with a steady flow of commerce the fisherman can relax and get in a steady flow of whales taken. This in conjunction with scientific monitoring sounds like a partnership for success.

Thank You and God Bless the Whales.

We need whale hatcheries, (Like salmon hatcheries, just for whales) and yes I know whales are mammals, but we can probably find a way to balance the number of whales there are being killed, with ones that are bred in captivity. Just a thought, cause I'm not too creative.
